  • The Earnslaw Steam Theme

Back in 2010 we were on the "TSS Earnslaw" cruising down Lake Wakatipu which and at the time it reminded me of when Ron Goodwin was on one of his many and popular tours in NZ that he composed this "Steam Theme" after being in the engine room himself. "The Earnslaw Steam" Theme also featured in his 1978 album "Going Places". The thought came to me lately that it would be a bit of a tribute to Ron Goodwin to include into the video that we took many years ago.

    Nicely Done, Graham!

I just did a little Google Mapping, and found that Kingston is at the south end of Lake Wakatipu. Was this one of the boats that once met the Kingston Flyer at the docks?

Steam and music go well together: it's the rhythm!

        Thanks Steve

Yes the TSS Earnslaw was the one that used to meet up with the Kingston Flyer.

PS. Just this afternoon I came across some nice 8mm Kodachrome home movie footage among the donated films to the Ferrmead Park Photographic society of the Earnslaw and the Kingston flyer, it was in the last reel of film to sort out for them.

Yes, she is named in the full-length edition of "A Train for Christmas":

          A Train for Christmas
          (-starting at 16:30)

They lopped that sentence off in the Derann 200 Foot digest: right before the ",but"! I guess you really haven't seen the movie until you've seen the whole movie!

            Steve

Its a pity Derann never released it full length like the Ride of the 480, but still glad to have the 200 footer

There should be some kind of a law in Digest Film that they can't destroy complete sentences! 😉

It's a shame too: the footage with the Earnslaw is beautiful.
