  • Disney strikes again?

I was trying to bring up my super 8 scope digest of Star Wars part 2 that has been up there for, what, 5 to 10 years? I don't remember when I put it up. Now, it's missing. I will go on my YouTube page tomorrow at the library, to see if it's still on there. In the meantime, if it's not still up there, could someone that has downloaded it off of eBay, could you send me a copy? I wonder if anyone has thought of suing Disney over this junk? I mean, these are legally owned, liscensed by Lucas film prints, not put up there for profit. Do they have any proprietorial rights over pre-existing prints of they're NOW copyrighted properties? I mean, I could understand the concern of Disney if I was trying to make money off of that posting, but I am not.

Osi, it looks like your video was taken down by Youtube for copyright violation. You own the Super 8 print, Disney owns the copyright. This applies even if you post it as "private" (i.e., it can not be found by searching in Youtube).

Here’s why YouTube deleted 58 million videos and a ton of accounts

I'm wondering who I should sue? Disney or YouTube? If my account entire, has been deleted, and this must have been something in the recent past ... why haven't I been notified? Thank goodness that all the videos that are on or were previously on the page, I have saved in my archives, beyond a few, the Star Wars scope for one.

You may be looking at your Channel when you log in. If the videos you posted are all private they will not show in your channel. To see private videos select "your videos" instead of your channel. I have videos I posted in 2011 that are still there. A few are "partially blocked" because youtube found copyrighted music in them, but they are still there.

It might be user error, or more likely Youtube's algorithms which analyze videos looking for copyright infringements.

It is the best to save your video in google drive (a sister company of youtube). I think they will not strike it with copyright issues.

I never use online things like Google drive, as, anything online can be hacked. I have 2 PC's at home that are never hooked to the internet, and these, along with two removable hard drives, are my storage devices.

Don’t worry 🥺they can still watch you from drones and listen to via electronic devices like phones and televisions and study your bank details and transactions from their office.😛

                would you like a copy?

                  "would you like a copy?"

                  Yes please.

Mike, I know you are being sarcastic, but I really don't think this nonsense belongs here.

Sarcastic no my dear Rob If someone wants to spy on you no hardware, precautions or wrapping yourself in tinfoil will stop them. In regard to the thread see those warnings about copyright and broadcasting they basically cover your rights. You bought a product it’s your unless you pay them you don’t have any rights to reproduce or broadcast on any other medium.

                      Back on topic please.

                      Osi,

Your scope Star Wars upload from 8 years ago is still there.

Doug, since you found the missing video which was the topic of this post, there is no topic left to get back to. As Emily Litella used to say, "Never mind..."

Winbert, posting copyrighted material on Google drive is less visible than Youtube, but since Google (Alphabet Inc.) owns YouTube, I suspect the same rules on posting copyrighted material apply.

So, I'm sort of on both sides here.

Osi wants to share his Ken Films version of Star Wars on YouTube.

                          But Disney don't agree.

The Ken version is for home and family only.

Mike is valid in making this point.

                          Wowzer...

So we really can't post or share images / video here that we don't have copyright to.

                          Crickey...

Nolo has a nice summary on "Fair Use: When Copyrighted Material Can Be Used Without Permission":

Copyright law gives certain exclusive rights to creators, including the right to reproduce, distribute, and make adaptations from their works. Unauthorized use of another's copyrighted work is copyright infringement.

"Fair use" is an important defense that sometimes applies to claims of copyright infringement. If your use is fair use, is not infringement.

In this article, we explain how fair use works, given you examples, and help you evaluate whether the doctrine applies to your own situation. Our focus here is written works, nut keep in mind that fair use applies to any type of copyrighted work, including musical works, audio-visual works, and even software.
                            The full article is here.

Thanks Doug, glad you found it. Apparently, the same search engine that would bring it up before, won't do so now. Mike, note: my posting of this was never for profit. Oh, there wouldn't be much to spy on, I lead a pretty bland life.
