  • Maurice's Thanksgiving Service

    Hi all
Jane here - Maurice's daughter. For those of you who would like to come to Dad's funeral and wake, I have attached an invite.

I know most of you live too far away. But, if you are around at 11.45 on
Wed 27th September, perhaps you'd like to think of Maurice, light a candle, or say a prayer. Or - show a film! If you have a Laurel and Hardy - that would be great. He and I used to love quoting "A Perfect Day". He also loved Disney animation - Mickey Mouse - and Warner Brothers cartoons. Also Betty Boop. If you don't have any of these, that's ok - choose one of your own favourites.

I am hoping to write and read a eulogy for Dad. Perhaps I could post it on the forum ..?

The wake is being held in our local multiplex. We have been able to hire a small auditorium! Martin, my husband, is hoping to project, using one of Dad's 100 projectors - our Leakey home movies, shot by Dad. And - A Perfect Day.

    Best wishes
    Jane

Will run one of each, to remember Maurice, including the favorite you both enjoyed; "Throw out the Clutch! That's easy..." Fondly, Shorty

I live in the USA so I can’t attend the service. I would love to play a film for him though. Did your dad like The Three Stooges? “Three Little Beers” or “Men In Black” come to mind. Also the classic Abbott And Costello “Who’s On First”. Those are my three picks. Which one would he like most?

I also have The Wizard Of Oz, Grease, The African Queen, and most Little Rascals shorts.

Jane, what a fantastic idea! As stated earlier, I live in the U.S. as well, but I have that film as well, and I will screen it in his honor!

Hi Jane. Thanks so much for the great idea.
My choice would be Betty Boop and Grampy. Maurice showed me this using his 9.5mm sound projector on one of my visits and he said it was one of his favourites.

Here is a link to a Youtube version for those unfamiliar : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKBYLe6KmgQ

Thankyou for the invite - maybe on the 27th we will all be 'Off to Grampy's House', in spirit or in person, to remember the great man

I will endeavour to screen Perfect Day, Betty Boop and Grampy and a Mickey Mouse, in my home cinema, The Retro Roxy, in memory of Maurice. A couple of them may be on 9.5 otherwise on dvd. Just shows how much he and I had in common. What a lovely way to say good bye. I will be there in spirit.😊

              Hi

              Hmmmm....Who's On First, I think.

Dad also liked the Marx Brothers. And he was a HUGE fan of Tom and Jerry
