  • Beta to digital?

Does anybody know of a business that will convert Beta to digital files? If I could aquire a Beta player myself, I'd do it, as I have a digital/video converter that plugs into my PC directly from the source, but I don't.

Joerg I don't see the magic letters NTSC. Many of us in Europe offer PAL Betamax transfer...no big deal!
Osi, I have a top of the range NTSC Sony Super Betamax and one of a handful who could offer both PAL and NTSC Betamax transfer. Alas it developed a fault (possible head amp, suggested by US engineer) but no one in the UK with a pulse was brave, experienced or stupid enough to take it on. Sadly the deck sits in a rack looking pristine but unusable😭

Take a look at their postal addresses - they don’t mention „never twice the same color“ as they have never heard of PAL or SECAM before.

Thanks for the responses thus far, but remember that I am here in the U S.

Tennessee and NewJersey are part of the USA, aren’t they?

I hadn't noticed the postal addresses, apologies.

Ahh, I was looking at the members addresses, and not the business addresses.

It's going to cost you at least $40 to digitize a one hour betamax tape. You can buy a used betamax player for about that price. Ebay is your best option.

Were any commercial films released on betamax? I do not remember ever seeing any in the shops here in the U K.

Loads of commercially-released movies on Betamax. I remember some rental shops having a VHS side and a Betamax side. With Laser discs in the corner. Ebay has many Betamax PAL movies listed, so I assume they were available European shops back then, too.

Derann even released some on Beta. I'm not saying they were all first line films though, some decidely dodgy subjects!!!
