Tuesday Night went well. Had 3 people come in for Wizard of Oz. The weather was quite cool - almost Florida "cold." For those of you who don't know - Florida residents after a period of time - we have thinner blood and dealing with cooler temperatures isn't as easy as people who live in generally colder areas of the country.
I was by myself for SW A New Hope. But it was grand to see it on the biggest screen that I've ever owned; a whopping 5 x 12 feet. And the CinemaScope filled it perfectly.
The projectors and sound ran very good too. Earlier in the day my 2nd remote control arrived and worked well too.
Did you know with the remotes and a pair of GS 1200 machines you can do instant changeovers WITHOUT noisy ceelunoids or electric magnetos? It's quite simple to do. Using basic cue marks and number 8 on the leader above the lens in auto load mode - start the motor on first cue. Next on 2nd cue turn the lamp on with the fresh reel THEN press stop on the remote control directly underneath it. Where the remote control for the OPPOSITE machine is place somewhere under the volume controls below the machine. This allows you to deal with any screen or sound issues and when you have that settled then you can go to the machine that has shut down - turn the lamp (switch) off and run out the tail to rewind the reel. Pressing STOP takes the machine out of play mode and that alone will shut off the lamp which of course eliminates tail footage from the screen. Your change over is fast, simple & clean.
Sound changeover units can be a simple RCA video selector (no power required) or you could find an electric based sound changeover unit that might operate by it's own remote control (in your left hand).
Now if all of that sounds complicated well it really isn't. A little practice and you develop the skill which is required to perform the task.
On these banner adds I am posting. The community where I live has a page on the internet. Some of the information I put up is for the residents that live here. You can of course ignore all of that or use it if you wish to stop by.....
The photo is not my photography. It was a general Google search. Off my property over the chain link fence, there is a Palm Tree on the left side of the screen. So to find this image is just pure luck.
I have worked out most of the issues regarding the outdoor shows. It has turned out to be quite the experience. Dusk usually comes when one of the brightest stars appears just above the giant trees behind the Palm tree. The cartoon reel begins and by the time the feature is underway the image is fine on the screen. And I am using the standard lamp on the GS1200 :-)
