I have two Bolex 18-5L Super 8 projectors. One has the nice front cover label ... the other does not. The missing label is very common on these machines. Bolex must not have used very good glue on this part. For a long time I've been thinking about a way to create a new label. I made a prototype today and it came out pretty good. I'm going to work on cleaning it up and refining it a bit, but I think the proof of concept worked.

Well done Janice! I wonder if there is any way that you can get that printed onto a thin metal plate? Perhaps a place that makes trophy's and awards could do it at an affordable price. My 18-5 also suffered from the label falling off, but fortunately I was around when it happened. I glued it back on with Scotchweld 2216 epoxy, so its in place forever!

Paul...That's pretty much what I've done myself. I used a piece of scrap sheet metal for this test. In the next version I will start with a nicer sheet of metal and darken up the printing a bit. I think it will look great.

Great work as always Janice. I have done that with other projectors. Counterfeiting is fun at times. But I'm not going to move on to money!

That's impressive. Labels often come off Eumig projectors as well. They made some other models for Bolex so they must have used the same glue.

Janice, How on earth did you print on to sheet metal?

I have some extras that I took pics of to see if I could some way duplicate them. Didn't work out that well. If somebody needed these to create duplicates somehow I would lend them to them.

Cool Janice ! Since most of the Bolex machines I encounter seem to have lost their badge, I think you could set up a small business here... If you would have home made labels for sale, you already have a customer here!

Here is a more finished version of the label. This is still using a slightly brushed finish piece of sheet metal. The printing is much darker and a lot cleaner.

That looks nice Janice! I've had to re-glue some of my emblems back onto a few of my 18-5's. On a rare occasion emblems come up on eBay when someone is parting out a projector.

I did a fun experiment using the aluminum from a soda can instead of the thicker sheet metal. The aluminum from the can is so thin it can be cut with scissors or an exacto knife. If handled and cut carefully it can look very good. I always have plenty of cans in my recycle bin

Here's a sample of the labels I've produced so far on the thin aluminum. The most difficult to do are the ones with the rounded logo cutout.
