Watched your video Osi and picked up on the part where you mentioned Silica Gel.

Another substance which would work for you if you run out of silica gel is a substance called AGM. It is found inside nappies or as you guys call them diapers. It is also found in feminine hygiene products such as "Always"(the ones worn externally). This stuff is fantastic at absorbing moisture and that's the reason it is used in granule form at the inner core of these two products.

Handle with care though as in large quantities it can be carcinogenic but quite harmless in small quantities if you handle with gloves. I am still here and I worked with it for years in huge quantities.

Very interesting info! I wonder if that can be found in packets in some form? The only fear I might have is that, like a diaper, this might swell and the next thing I know, I would open the fridge to get a film and find a heck of a lot of films in very swollen freezer bags, (a blow out of my fridge door? Sounds funny in theory!)

It will swell Osi where there is moisture but remember, these things only swell to the size they do because of the shear amount of moisture they are expected to contain. As your films are already in a relatively dry environment I wouldn't expect much swelling of the AGM. It is also really useful in hanging baskets as it retains so much moisture you only need water them around once every two weeks!

When I was on BT silica gel was used in joints mainly the old lead paper core type. They also used them in the green cabinets at the side of the road. At one time there must have been 1000's piled up for disposal.

I did find a use for them at home though. Always had a few in my projector case.
