With the passing of Sam Rubin,we lose a man who as much as anyone to make *mm a collector's gauge.Sam stared publishing 8mm collector in 1962. Until Sam came along,16mm was the choice for collectors. When the paper started, outside of Blackhawk and a couple small companies,8mm was mainly limited to one reel digests. Sam personally started write in drives to get films released in 8mm.He was a watchdog who kept a keen eye on dealers, making sure they were on the up and up. If someone wasn't,everyone would know. He also started the Cinecon conventions, which continue to this day. Sam truely loved the hobby and the people in it.I thank him for teaching me so much about classic films. Everyone who knew Sam was part of a large family.God bless you,Sam,you leave quite a legacy!
