After finding a collection of old family movies I have bought an Eumig Mark 501 from ebay. It has no instructions with it so do I assume it will automatically detect which films are standard 8 and super 8 or is there some change to make. Is that what the lever on the top is for? Would be grateful if someone could assist with the answer

Hi,yeah that is what the lever is for,if it is not set for the right type of film you want to project then it will not thread and run.
I learnt these things as i went along enjoying my hobby and about the different type of films [Smile]

I seem to recall that the top lever on a Eumig 501 is the framer, not the guage selector. [Smile]

Are you sure its a dual guage machine?
Might be only for Super 8mm if there is no sliding selector on the side. Can you post a pic of the projector????
