Does anyone know if sound heads on Eumigs or Chinons go kaput after a while and what about the mag tracks on studio prints? I heard this from a fellow collector and now I am fearful of using my machines too often. I don't want to have to keep replacing them as Super 8 Sound Projectors are becoming more and more scarce and the film, too.

The sound heads on two Eumigs I once owned wore out quite rapidly, about 4 years in the case of the 810D. I have 2 Elmo ST 1200HD's bought new in 1979 and they are still OK. I recently accquired a GS from the same vintage and that's fine also. Mal

I have three EUMIGS 810D 29+ years old - (on orig sound head) 824 25 years old - (on orig sound head) Mark-S 33 years old - (this one would blow a head every other year, I gave up on this one in the mid 70's and got the 810D).
By the way these EUMIGS were all inactive during the 80's & 90's, but have been getting some heavy use the last three years or so.
I would not be too concerned about the sound heads that it prevents you from using your projector. Try to pick up a spare on ebay (just in case), this is a cheaper method than trying to get an older machine fixed.
