Mark,

GOLD was released F/L in SCOPE & FLAT versions, although these are very, very rare, as it seems they didn't have the rights to release it F/L (althougth it was well advertised), I believe only a few prints of each were actually ever printed.

They did toy with a 4x400' release of CARRY ON EMMANUELLE, and got as far as a couple of test prints, but they didn't think the title was strong enough to sell feature prints, so a Double album was all that was released.

I have "My Name is Nobody" scope midi feature, and it is a very good scope print. It is, however, just the slightest light print, but VERY acceptable!

Thanks for your list Mark!

Yes I used to have a copy too,it wasnt a bad print if I recall.

I think Iver released some great titles in there time,it surprises me how many turn up still on ebay these days.

I bet there were some other titles which sneaked out the back door too,CROSS OF IRON was advertised as a midi feature in Moviemaker but never released as far as I am aware apart from a well edited 400ft version.

I,m glad you enjoyed my list Osi.

Mark, is there anyway that you can give any history on "Ivers", (as well as anybody else out there who might have info over there on that side of the pond!).

As stated, they had quite a few great titles, but I know very little about them, except that, as a general rule, they're titles have tended to age well.

By the way, for those interested, the "Treasure Island" they released is the 1972 version with Orson Welles, a rather under-
-rated edition in my opinion, and the print is a magnificent letterboxed version of the film and extremely sharp! I did a review for this title on the forum, I believe.

Osi,
Here's a little background on Iver Film Services Ltd,they started trading in 1977/78 and had an office based at Pinewood film studios in Buckinghamshire hence there slogan "from the professionals at Pinewood" they intially started selling direct to the public via adverts in Movie Maker magazine and had early success with there first release THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE which was released full length and uncut on 5 x 400ft reels in hardcase plastic cassette stye boxes with full colour inlays taken direct from the original art work, prints sold for £100 a pop which was a lot of money back in the 70's,they then went on to release F/L prints of TREASURE ISLAND,CALL OF THE WILD etc.
They also had business ties with Hemdale Film distributors which was a successful UK based film distributor run by the late John Daly and the actor David Hemmings who had very plush offices in London's Mayfair district.

Iver traded in super 8mm until about 1980/81 eventually using Mountain Films UK as there main distributor who had a shop in London's west end,you could actually pick up discounted prints there, the last batch of Iver releases inc TO THE DEVIL A DAUGHTER,SWEENEY! and ACES HIGH.

Iver were a great company who pioneered the release of double albums/2 x 400ft releases here in the UK and released a great back catalogue of titles in a very short period of time.it was a real shame that the super 8mm release's stopped in favor of videotape which they traded successfully in until 1984/85 when the video recording act made it very expensive for an independant company to trade in the UK.

I hope this info helps,

Wow Mark!

I never knew a somewhat unknown "Aces High" got released on Super 8! So now, there are two features with that "Trinity" star, (Terrence Hill) ....

My Name is Nobody
Aces High

Is it any coincidence that they were both released by Ivers?

Hmmm ....

Aces High also has Eli Wallach, of "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" fame, (Eli was "The Ugly", for those who don't know).

Many thanks to you Mark. I always enjoy posts that deal with the history of different Super 8 companies.

I was looking for info on "Red Fox Films" on all search engines, and found nothing. Same as with "Ivers".

It would be spectacular if someone, (are we listening Doug and company?), could launch a website, dedicated to the history of all these Super 8 companies, from the big ones like Derann, to the little ones like "Reel to Reel" and others who may have only released a few, to even the individuals who released films.

What do you chaps think?

Hi-Osi,glad you enjoyed my post, sorry to disappoint you but the film ACES HIGH released by Iver was actually a 1976 WW1 film starring Malcolm McDowell.

Hi-Dave

ACES HIGH was originally announced by Iver as a midi feature ( 4 x 400ft ) but it was long delayed and eventually released as a 400ft digest only,it was probably the last official release on 8mm from Iver.

George Davis

Terry Lens

And here's the link to the super 8 part of Iver Film Services

And this is the main page: Iver Films

I'm lucky to have quite a few Iver Films in my collection. The titles were in my opinion mainly good, with the odd selection that must not have sold very many, but who knows? One of my favourites is 'The Legend Of Frenchie King' you very or even never see this for sale (I'll now be proved wrong).

I actually bought this title from them at Pinewood, just stopped by the security man on the famous entrance, asked me where I was going. OK down there turn etc. The office was one of about four portacabins, on the right with old film props on the other side of the driveway. Served by Wendy Moorhen.

Sorry I don't think it was that classic. Its a video nasty they released on video in their video days, after they had stopped super 8mm. The list is just copied from the site I have linked to. The original list just has the film releases.

They did put some very good stuff on film though. If you look at the links (imdb)they had production links to some of their releases.

I wonder if German distributors got ahold of Ivers un-released negative for "Cross of Iron" or did they do they're own edit and release? I believe it was a German marketing release and was 3X400ft, but i don't know if it was ever a full feature release?

By the way, magnificent work there!

The 3x400 of "Cross of Iron" was as far as I know, the longest
version on S/8 Osi.The chap that used to obtain a lot of my
foreign prints informed me that the print was beautiful on the
Marketing version.

If you look at the list they did release a lot more titles on video, some do seem like super 8 as (1st release, Super 8mm size box), but I presume there are video I never seen film versions.

I believe at one time they looked at setting up a super 8 library.

David ...

It seems like they must have had some form of library, as some of the feature prints for for some form of library use only and not for resale. Could extra info be added for this point?

Hugh "Beauty & the Beast" don't recall ever seeing it released come to that I don't recall seeing advertisements for it. I suppose if its one you have no interest in, you can gloss over its listing.

Osi The list I put up was taken from the Iver site it does list MOST but not all the titles put out by Iver both film & video. I have sent the site the listing from here they had some missing.

Like it says somewhere I do believe some were printed full length for hire use. 'white box hire' anyone! I bought a copy of "Gold" 2x400ft scope only had a chance to have quick look seems OK. It was on at Odeon cinema for 2 weeks. Would like "Gold" complete. The dvd I bought was very poor, p&s & cut.

I'm sure Iver themselves never did set up the film library, but most of the films could be hired, even the 'export' only ones.

These are some I have/had
Amorous Milkman, The
Caravan to Vaccares
Carquake
THE DIAMOND MERCENARIES
Giant Spider Invasion, The
Gold
Groove Tube, The
Hugo the Hippo
Klansman, The
THE LEGEND OF FRENCHIE KING-Full length trailer
Mad Mad Movie Makers (trailer)
Murphy's War
THE PASSAGE
THE SLIPPER & THE ROSE
Teenage Graffete
Treasure Island
Twilight's Last Gleaming
Virgin and the Gypsy, The

I thought I had "Shout At The Devil" but I can't find it, I think I sold it when I got it on 16mm. I have a couple of the trailers still. Like "Gold" they were long trailers, almost a cutdown.

Currently in a BIG sort out of all my horde of stuff. I need to sort everything. Looking to move house in a couple of years.

I love the smell of film in the morning.

& Iver were going to release a 3 x 400ft version of Cross of Iron, (which would have been an excellent release), we paid for our reserve but unfortunatly we recieved our cheque back around 2 weeks later from the administrators.

Hi David, the film "BEAUTY & THE BEAST", a TV film I think, was
advertised in "Movie Maker" by Iver, and must have been axed
like a lot of other titles.
