Would someone be kind enough to send me picture showing what a sound reel looks like on a 8mm reel . I have been sent a picture (Thanks Hans) but it was of a 16mm film.

I cant find anything on the internet with comparison photos etc.

here is a pic of 8mm sound striped leader. (It basically looks like a tiny strip of magnetic audio tape on the outer edges, there can be anywhere from one to multiple stripes

On alot if reels the stripe(s) are also dirt brown, not blackish like the photo [Smile]

There's also a smaller stripe, called the balance stripe, on the other side of the sprocket holes in the above picture. These tracks are magnetic tracks. Super 8 is also capable of having optical tracks, mainly on the opposite side of the sprocket holes. In very rare occasions, there are some films that have a secondary optical track, next to the sprocket holes. This was to accommodate a different language track than the one on the main track.

Standard (Regular) 8 also can accommodate a magnetic sound track as well.
