Hi.
I have film that is sound, but it is on a silent reel. Doesn't make any difference except when trying to find out the length of the film. It says 150feet, but I know it's probably shorter. Do you know how to calculate it?

I constantly get into trouble trying to find the correct length of film, sound, silent, regular, super etc. Is there a website explaining this?

If you can project the film at 24 FPS and figure out the screen time, you'll have 50 feet for every 2.5 Minutes. (20 feet per minute, 4 inches per second...whatever.)

Throw in another 10 feet for leader and tail and you're no worse than close enough.

-Something that the video crowd has no grasp of: the Art of measuring time in FEET!

"How old's that boy of yours these days?"
"He'll turn 105,120,000 Feet next month!"

PS: I have reels that are marked for both sound and silent footage. The 150 Foot marks for both are pretty close to being at the same radius from the spindle.

All I ask is a wide screen and a projector to light her by...
