I have two unslit super 8 films. One is From Here To Eternity on a 153' roll one half inch wide. It needs to be slit down the center to make 2x153' sections. The other film is Public Enemy the same length. Of course both are silent. Not sure if a sound strip was to be added after slitting.

Dan, send it off to one of the few remaining film labs that do 8mm/S8mm. A little money is a lot easier that trying to rig something up to do it yourself.
I was going to have a couple Elvis features slit for Thomas M. before he died. For the slitting of the 16mm films apart, it was only going to cost about $50.00. End result would have been 4 features. I can't imagine the footage you have would cost that much to be done.

The only one I know of is Andec in Germany. I wish I had my slitter & printer. The slitter I had was actually from an Echo camera slitter mounted on a big plate with takeups that used strong magnets to hold metal super 8mm reels. You would hand thread the film through then once you have the ends threaded on the takeups, you throw the switch, and 2000 feet would be done in a few minutes. If you want Ludwig's address let me know. I'm at work now and the address is at home.

For 8mm Dan, I would say the place Larry suggest, or maybe a lab (name slips my mind) I think in the Seattle area. I know...that was no help at all.

I think you mean Alpha Cine in Seattle. That is where I get my film processed. They do a lot of professional film processing, telecine and other lab work. It's nice having a great lab like that close to my home. http://alphacine.com/
I have seen other ones that are made specifically for slitting double 8 film. It's a round black tool that you pull the film through. I think that John Schwind may have sold them. You could contact him and ask.
