Want to start by saying hello. I like to restore anything vintage and just finished restoring a Bell and Howell filmo, master. Everything now works great except the cork drive wheel is dead I tried putting a rubber band around it and that works for about 10 min until the rubber band breaks. Does anyone know of a replacement part or any ideas?

Hi Gerry

Welcome to the forum!

If you go to an automotive store you can buy cork gasket material and make a replacement piece to glue on the wheel.

Gerry

Not sure if rubber would work [Confused] I think cork is used so it will actually slip after a certain amount of torque. Whereas rubber would not. They used cork for a reason.

Thanks Jan. With this old stuff you learn to improvise.

Pat,

Are your able to buy specific thicknesses of cork in sheets like this?

Usually when I go there its more like "I need a set of valve cover gaskets" or "I need to replace my water pump gasket". (Etc.)

I never even thought of asking for the raw material.

I can just imagine:

"What year?"
"1978"
"Make?"
"Elmo"
"??....That's foreign?"
"Yeah, it's Japanese..."

All I ask is a wide screen and a projector to light her by...

Various stores used to sell cork sheets to line the bottom of tool chest drawers. A person would have to ask around.
