Was the 1976 King Kong released in an ENGLISH 200-400ft color/sound digest? [Confused]

There was a Marketing 400' release but I can't recall a 200'. I'd try a search here as I can recall it being discussed in some detail before.

The Marketing catalog lists only the full feature and a 400' digest.

The American Marketing catalogue does,but the German one
also lists the 4x400'.Also a 400' was released in a different coloured box, in this case red as opposed to the familiar blue one,
as it was thought that this one was sold for export and I have a
feeling it was English sound.I might have the DFS newsletter
still, although I did have a clean out, it might be one of a few that
survived.Although I have a feeling that this particular edition was
reviewed in either S/8 REVIEW or FFTC. I will check.I remember
it was a REVUE release, through Marketing.

Revue released different editions, or simply a black and white version of many Piccolo films. But one of the seldom release is a 200 version of King Kong in a red box (the same size like the 400 blue boxes). But this is not a actually 200 Version, it is simply the last 200 ft from the last part of the 4x400 Version.
(If I remember right, because it is over 15 years ago as I had the print).

It looks like this:

This 200ft extract (a letterbox edition by the way) was released within a cooperation between Marketing Film Germany and Foto-Quelle (the photographic branch of the German mail order company Quelle), which sold all its products under the label "Revue."

And Oemer: Although this 200ft extract contains just the end of the four-parter, Foto-Quelle offered it as a "self-contained" edition.

It seems that the 200ft edition was also available from Marketing Film Germany (catalog number 865).

before the film hit my home town cinema, and the colour/print
is excellent.

I have to hand it to members here - the information provided on this forum is phenomenal!

Derann released a scope trailer to the film, which I have, but I'm pretty sure that's all they were responsible for.

On looking at the website, I noticed two of my favourite films
advertised complete "Journey to the Centre of the Earth" in 'scope
and Ib Melchiors "The Time Travellers". I wonder if they did the
"Angry Red Planet"?

I had to recheck this site,to make sure I wasn't dreaming it, but
there it is "JOURNEY TO THE CENTRE OF THE EARTH", 1959, the
only, accept no substitute ,true blue, dyed in the wool complete
feature in Cinemascope, stunning colour and mounted on
8x400' spools.This listing is very recent being 2010, there are
many more features here, now the big question, how to get one
and how much?

Hugh,

I hope you understood that this website contains just reviews of films released on Super 8 - nothing on these pages is for sale.

It is quite unlikely to find an 8x400' edition of "Journey to the Center of the Earth" in scope. The text states that there were only four reversal prints struck, so it looks as if this was no official release. Also the pictures shown on the website are no screenshots of the Super 8 print but were taken from the DVD (don't ask me how somebody can come up with an idea like this...) - according to the text, the print itself is a bit dark and shows a lot of wear which was already on the preprint material.

But Marketing Film Germany released a 400ft-letterbox-version of "Journey to the Center..." As this happened near their very end, it was most likely also only a small print run, but prints do pop up on sales lists from time to time. http://www.super-8-hobby.de/rezent807.htm

The "Time Travellers" print reviewed on the website was also made on reversal stock and should therefore be very rare.

Thankyou Eberhard, that clears that up, although it would still be nice to obtain one of those elusive prints.Perhaps you might know
of the existance on 8 or 16mm of the film "Die Schlangengrube
und Das Pendel", I asked earlier on a different thread and Oemer
kindly told me it is probably an Italian print. Surely a print of
this remarkable little film must exist somewhere in Germany.

Hello David, click onto Eberhards link,scroll right down to the
bottom of the page, click onto "Rezension-Ubersicht", a menu
appears and click onto "Komplettfassunden", then you are
presented with a myriad film posters, look for the one for either
" Journey" or "Time Travellers" and click on, voila!

Hugh,

according to the German magazine "filmmagazin/av", issue 4/1991, a 4x400' edition of

DIE SCHLANGENGRUBE UND DAS PENDEL (1967)

was released in GB by Mountain Films. Catalog title should have been "The Pit and the Pendulum" or "The Snake Pit and the Pendulum", whereas the credit section of the print itself carries the original English release title "The Blood Demon."
It was available in colour as well as in b/w.

There was also a German non-consecutive two-parter by Piccolo-Film:

Piccolo 3117 "Die Schlangengrube des Grafen Dracula"
Piccolo 3120 "Die Burg des Grauens - Das Todespendel"

Thankyou very much Eberhard for your efforts,you've put the
time and effort in there. I managed to get a copy of the 400'
"Journey" and it should be on it's way now.I have various editions
of Mountains version of the film plus the Piccolo 2x400's.The
only problem is that there are cuts to the Mountain edit, and I
do believe that there might be a longer version available, possibly
from Italy.I hope that there is as I feel that this is a very neglected
little horror/fairy tale.

Thanks Oemer for the "heads up", I was hoping for the '59 Fox
version, as it is it's the Spanish remake which I havent seen for
over 37 years, I have just received the Marketing 400' and
will screen that tonight, if this little film is still advertised later on
(if it's still available) I reckon I might just get it. Thanks again Oemer.

Watched 'Time Travellers' on you tube. Yes it was the one I remember seeing years ago. It was the ending that I really remembered with them going faster and faster.

Is there another one like this, with a time portal but set in the old west?

I would put the quality on you tube as average like a 70's super 8 print.
