As an adjunct to another discussion, (I wish I knew how to start a Poll) what movies would you be willing to purchase new, (assuming they were under USD$1000) in the Super8 format if they were available to purchase now?

Probably should put them in order too!

For me it would be:

1977 Star Wars
Blade Runner
1980 Empire Strikes Back
Thief and the Cobbler

What about the rest of you? Only list them if you would actually put up the money to buy at least one of the titles you list. I'm interested to see if there really is enough demand for new Super8 feature prints or not.

I'd love that Star Wars 1977 version too

Empire is available from Steve Osborne and CHC I believe

Blade Runner I also had on the list before, and still haven't gotten it, so yes please :-)

Temple of Doom would be nice ... Wild at Heart is one of my favorites. Alien would be on the list

I keep asking Steve about ESB on the new film stock, but he hasn't seemed to work out a price or a timeframe yet.

If it were a title that all on the forum could pick that we could all agree on I would pick Blade Runner. But I would go for these as well:

I agree with The Wicker Man; a visual feast of beautiful locations, strange surreal scenes, and beautiful women.

Manhattan, Chunking Express, lost in translation, Raiders of the lost ark and just like everybody else Bladerunner. If I owned just one of these I would be a very happy man [Smile] ("it's an investment darling, it will only go up in price") that's what I would have to say to the girlfriend.

Many of the titles mentioned are readily available in 16mm and probably at a much cheaper price than you could expect to pay for a brand new Super 8 release.

So it looks like we already would have enough interested parties to do a group buy of Blade Runner, Star Wars, Alien and possibly 2001.
We should run this thread for a while, and then if everyone is still interested, select the most requested titles, and perhaps ask Steve or CHC or the German Lab as a group and see if it makes some of these titles feasible to purchase.

A good idea Peter, that would require a list of titles for release
and no doubt a deposit. somehow, I can't see it taking off, there
are request's of film, but ask them for deposits is something else.

Should we ask CHC how many we need to get one? Blade Runner is one that many has mentioned. Problem might be to have something to print from.

I have a survey form I built and it's ready but it's becoming difficult to narrow down a short list to vote from.

I cross referenced by most watched on streaming services, highest grossing, highest grossing adjusted for inflation, requests made here, greatest cult status, films that haven't been put out as features or digests in the past, and highest user rating on imdb and highest critical acclaim on rotten tomatoes.

I should have it complete by the end of the day BUT no matter what film wins the only metric I couldn't lock down is availability of the 35mm print. I made sure that all listed have been released on 35mm (even if shot on digital) but I can't comment on how hard or easy it is to get a hold of those prints. To say nothing of how much it will cost to license the films from their holding companies.

But I consider this a fun experiment and we'll see what happens!

Blade Runner seems to be a popular request. But I'm wondering, what version is everyone focused on? Theatrical? Director's? Final? International?

Imagine throwing down $700 and much to your surprise there is no narration. Or much to your surprise there IS. lol

Hugh, the suppliers keep saying they could do print X or Y, but there is not enough people to make it feasible. In my experience anyway, they keep telling me 'we have no other requests for that'.
I reckon if we organised ourselves and found some common ground on what we waned to purchase, then contacting the supplier and saying 'we have 6 people who want a print of Bladerunner (or whatever)' then they can get back to us and say if it is doable or not, and how much and how long. I'm sure they would want a deposit, but I don't see that as a problem if people actually want to buy.
The main problem seems to be that they need a certain amount of people to buy a print to make it viable.
