Brand new to the 8 mm world and I'm admittedly clueless. I ordered two films recently - one has images upside down so I know I have to magically rewind this somehow. The other is an 8 mm film that came on a reel which does not seem to fit my projector. It spins around and there are no catch points. Are there adapters for reels like this? I'll bet my question is stupid and confusing and I apologize in advance.

Hi Diane and Welcome!,

It sounds like your upside down film is actually flipped end for end. (in other words the end of the film is on the outside of the reel). Odds are your images are moving backwards in time too.

If you spool it onto another reel, at least the beginning will be on the outside where you need it to be.

Odds are your other film is on a Super-8 reel: the S8 spindle is larger than the Regular-8 one. There are adapters, but it may be easier just to get an R8 reel.

Well, rats. I rewound it on an 8 mm reel only to realize that it's probably not an 8 mm film, despite saying so on the box.

It's The Werewolf and the box is clearly marked 8 mm. Is it possible that the box was misprinted?

Compare the sprocket holes to your other film. If they are noticeably smaller your second film is actually Super-8.

Diane, 8 mm and Super 8 have the same (8 mm of course) width but, as said before have different holes (and different spools). You can only project 8 mm and Super 8 with the same projector if your machine is a dual gauge one, otherwise you will need two projectors.

You must determine what gauge your projector is. It could be Regular 8 (often just named 8mm) or it could be Super 8. Look at the pics on Janice's posting and compare with what you have.

What make and model projector do you have, and what did you order when you bought the films?
