I know that there has been a lot written about the Tom and Jerry films, but I thought i would add a little more info.
I knew I had two copies of "Posse Cat" (one of the better latter day MGM Tom and Jerry's in my opinion), and I also knew that while both were great color, one was pin sharp and the other was dupey and not a great focus to the image.
I finally found both of them yesterday and decided to compare them.
What I found interesting, was that they were BOTH Walton films releases! They has thier differences ...
Good copy (sharp) Stock unknown, no markings, Walton logo, Yellow label/red background
Bad copy (fuzzy) AGFA Blue Walton logo, purple background.
... so, quite intersting. I'm betting that there is someone out there who could even date when these two editions came out (due to the color of the Walton logo), and I'd love to hear from them!).
However, by and large, I have found the Walton prints of the Tom and Jerry cartoons to be second to none, with the DErann prints equaling the Waltons for sharpness and color, (OK, just a slight advantage to the Deranns).
What's funny is that the official MGM Tom and Jerry's were not up to this same standard, as they have by and large faded, due to inferior stocks.
