I have a lot of Super8 films bought from the Marketplace in the past years, but most of them are somewhat faded versions.
People do lie a lot.
Even some films from filmshops are no good.
I also do have some fairly beautyfull films tho.

I thought 8mm film was all faded because of age, till I found out about Derann and stereo film on Super8, and here at 8mmforum it's all about superb quallity films, tho most are very very exprnsive haha.

I was wondering,...
Are the short films, like Tom & Jerry or the Disney 60m films all crappy because of the material they used?
I even bought Match of the Century 4x, and all those sellers did lie about the quallity.

I wish I joined up here a long time ago.

There are many sellers of films that either stretch the boundaries of the truth beyond all recognition, or are extremely economical with the truth or worse case scenario are just downright unscrupulous liars.

Getting to the truth of the matter regarding potential purchases, relies as much as anything else, on the buyer themselves doing a little research first before dipping their toe in the water.

There is nothing a rogue seller loves more, than a newbie who is completely unsuspecting of any of the potential pitfalls regarding the purchasing of used films and equipment.

If in doubt, always ask for some screenshots before committing to buying, to avoid any disappointment regarding colour fading and always use the basic instinct that if a deal looks to good to be true,.. it probably is!

All of the later Derann reprints of Disney and T&J titles will have superb unspoiled vivacious colour for many years to come.
As you say however, the prices they fetch, often reflects this.

Titles such as Match Of The Century or Dapper Dalmatian for example, are however, only available as originally released by WDHM .

I am still stunned as to just how high of quality that Derann was able to produce (along with a few other companies) when it came to short subject cartoons, Especially derann's Warner Brother cartoons, in some cases, taken from red Fox negatives. I would put "Gruesome Twosome" up there with any 16MM print of the cartoon, and the same can be said for a myriad of Tom and Jerry's as well, "Heavenly Puss" is a real standout title especially, with a color and sharpness quality that I never even saw of Tom and Jerry DVD's.

Matthieu, I have a very nice copy of Disney's Match of the Century on eBay right now posted with screen shots. I'm assuming you're referring to the same title from Bedknobs and Broomsticks? It's still sitting at 99p. It was the only film with good colour from a collection I picked up recently.

I'm sure you will hear from the forum that most have faded or turned very red,and it's true, but every now and then you get a 200ft or 400ft Super 8mm film with brilliant colours.
I can't recall the titles I have but they are Walton releases and they look great :-)
And when you first screen them you will be surprised!

I do have some Disney 200ft UK releases (from Buck Labs) that are on Agfa and have kept excellent colour, but are silent. The ones on Fuji are not bad but not that good. US prints seem to be on SP and are fading. It seems it all depends on where and when the prints were made.

I agree with Osi on the Derann on the Warner cartoons, some from Techno negatives too, have the highest quality. I would add Sahara Hare and Buccaneer Bunny to the 16mm quality list.

I'll look out for Derann, Walton, Warnerand Techno.

There are vast numbers of low fade shorts printed from 1983 onwards (plus some earlier ones) out there, but collectors seem to generally be hanging on to them, so you unfortunately often tend to see more of the faded ones being sold.

Also keep in mind that some titles can be faded or low fade - e.g. the Derann reprints of THE OLD MILL will have excellent colour, but all the ones I've seen issued from Walt Disney Home Movies, in the original Disney box, have been badly faded.

I've had less luck than Brian with Techno releases, as mine all seem to have varying degrees of fade.

Some of the original Techno one have OK colour (I belive they were from Technicolor's Italian labs (on Kodak stock) but the main ones I was referring to were printed after Derann bought up most of Technofilms stock including some Warner cartoon negatives. They had reprints done at Rank on LPP and are the best.

I have some beautiful Walt Disney 200' releases. Aristocats Meet Scat Cat, The Band Concert, The Sorcerer's Apprentice and Bambi And His Friends all look great. These are all WDHM prints.

Walton issued thirty Tom & Jerry cartoons on Super 8. They all were good prints with good colour.
The first ten issues were slightly edited, but the remaining twenty were not.
