I've just bought an Elmo projector that takes this lamp. On looking on line these lamps are advertised at vastly different prices, is any particular brand better than another?

I'm no expert but I usually go for the cheapest,I think they are more expensive depending on the seller sometimes,plus some will have different lamp lives - much like the 12V 100W halogen lamps,here some have 50 hours and dearer ones have 100's plus.

The EJM is now reasonably rare hence some inflated prices. As suggested by Clinton go for the cheapest.
I recommend those made by Philips, a very reputable company.
