Hi - I finally purchased a Eumig 810D! It looks to be in near-perfect condition (and was told perfect), although I'm not sure. It came from England with original cord, but not the plug that goes into wall, which is different than US. I got the US plug, hooked it up and it starts, But seems to be low in power. I also tried using a computer cord, which does the same thing - starts up, but low power.

Here is a video of me powering up and reaching around to click it for auto-feeding. It looks like the reel wants to start going but just can't. Any thoughts on this? Thank you!!

Inside the back cover did you switch it from 220v to 110v to account for our electricity? I can send you a photo when I get home if you like?

Hi Joe,

There's a second adjustment you need to make. There is a toggle inside marked 50/60 to correct the motor speed to allow for the change in frequency between European and North American house current.

Left as it is you will have more than 18FPS at the bottom of the speed adjustment and more than 24 at the top.

The manual has instructions for both on page 5: (Hopefully your machine has the adjustment, apparently they don't all)

Thanks Steve - Mine does have a toggle. I tried both 50/60 but didnt notice a difference. (It came set to 50, is that what it should be?)I also have the instruction manual, it saus something about also moving the blue plug (which looks like it is going into something labeled 50, but dont see anything else I could attach that too except something lower labeled "A"). Ther is also a red wire that lets you choose voltage of either 22, 230, 240, or 250. I don't see any option for 110v.

Joe 50 HZ is the European setting. If your selector has no 110 volts position, you will have to use an external transfo. 110 volts was replaced by 220 volts in the early '60s in Europe so not all projectors manufactured after that can be used on this "old" voltage (but some models can as they were intended to be sold worldwide).

The toggle doesn't directly change the speed of the machine. Newer cars often have a continuously variable transmission: a whole range of gear ratios instead of just three or five. Believe it or not, the Eumig 800 series actually has a CVT too. What the toggle does is change the range of ratios available to compensate for the different motor speeds because of the change of frequency. (-and we want "60")

You need to fix the voltage problem first anyway: the frequency selector is more like "fine tuning"!

I hope that you don't have a machine set up only for European voltages. If so, as Dominique says, you'll need a step-up transformer.

-Other than that you could find a dead local 810D and do a transformer transplant.

Ok, I actually now see on the back that it says Volt 220/250~50HZ, 185 Watt. Lamp 100W, 12V

So, I think I need a tranformer that will give me 500W to be safe. SOmething like this:

Hi Joe, that is very unfortunate. I have had a 15 or so of these Eumig 800 series projectors and most of them have had a full range or volt selection. However, I know I have a had one or two that only had a small low range, ( I assume marketed for North America) So I suppose Europe had the same thing with high voltage. Would have been nice if they would have made them all with full range. If you need any internal parts I may be able to help you out. I have a spare parts projector.

The 500 Watt transformer is right on the money. It's better to have more capacity than you need: it'll last longer that way.

Zechariah - I am also looking for the "Eumig Universal Re-Recording Lead Cable" which I'd be happy to purchase from you if you have. I am basically setting up a telecine to digitize some reels and trying to get the best sound. I need a cable that can blug into the sound output jack... Thanks!

Unless Zech can help, you'll probably need to make that yourself. The DIN connection isn't very common these days, especially in North America.

Of course, the nice thing about making your own is it can be exactly what you want it to be.

(Are you handy with a soldering iron?)

Yes - I can weild a soldering iron fairly well. But a 5 pin midi doesn't fit in the projectir end - so need something to fit that socket, then I can rig up the other side... Thanks!

I've four Eumigs and all are 220 to 240 volts so I guess that they were designed for the European market. My Sankyos, though, offer a 110 volt option as well so I assume that they were aimed at worldwide markets.
