A MILESTONE IN THIS HOBBY
For many years collecting super 8 sound I was hoping to have two sets of complete projectors. So that in the event of a breakdown each projector (1 or 2) would have its own back up model. As I always wanted to achieve as most of you know un-interrupted program presentation at all times. To me, a break between reels should never happen. Maybe its because it is what I did for a career people in the theater would never stand for a single projector with 6 short reels. They would rather leave with a pass then sit through that kind of evening. So every show was with twin projector or a single projector long play unit installed.
Between the years of 1987 and 2013 I was lucky enough to have built up a series of ST-1200 machines. The first pair which I still have today, the single track D model with optical. Later I acquired my second set of ST 1200 machines, the HD magnetic only. And soon after that, a pair of HD units with optical. As of today I no longer have the magnetic only models, but the other four I do retain in my collection.
As a projector collector I very much appreciate this hobby and a gift I have to have come this far.
But as of this week, it is now much better.
In early 2014, I finally took the bold step of moving to the GS-1200 model. It would not be cheap, it would take time, and I would need lots of patience for the frustration. But as of now I have completed the task.
I am proud to say that I now have two sets of working, purchased off Ebay, and repaired several times, GS-1200 machines, all of which are optical equipped. If you know the GS-1200 then you know the specs. You also know the horror stories!
Right now I am feeling pretty darned good. And I look forward to many years of enjoying my films at home, and the forum posts to come!
