Hi all,

I recently took a trip around our local thrift store and found a Bell and Howell 253-AR 8mm projector, thankfully it works but has a few quirks. Firstly the belts are tired and stretched so new ones have been ordered and the second is it sounds like it needs a good oiling but not sure what oils to use, does anyone have any they can recommend or suggest? Thanks!

I suggest you use some thin oil. That sold for use in sewing machines is suitable.

I like ZOOM oil. The bottle with the long, thin retractable spout is great for getting into small hard to reach places. It is available on Amazon and in Ace Hardware stores. It is a thin, high temp oil originally developed for turbines.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what kind of oil I should use in my Bell and Howell 606H?

Zac
Remember that this projector could now be around 60 to 70 years old and as there are numerous gears it's quite probable that it needs more than just a drop of oil.
I suggest you watch the following video which gives some interesting comments on the gears and lubrication.
