Hi All,
I have notice more and more auctions like this one:
https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Super-8-MM-Mickey-s-Memorable-Moments-Colour-Sound-U-K-Walt-Disney/263743623046?hash=item3d68584f86:g:q2EAAOSwLFBbGYEC

Will NOT Ship To Italy...

I was just wondering why this is happening? I cannot see any reason to Not ship to anyone country. Maybe people have a reason I am unaware of.... I am interested to hear Why!

Thanx,
Matt

Hi Matt
I understand it has a lot to do with packages being stolen / not delivered and no way to trace shipments .

And that might just be one reason why .

I see there are plenty of bids on this item.
It seems that there are two films on this spool. One can only hope that the second part is Volume Two as the seller doesn't seem to know what he's got.

I agree it is not wise to discriminate.

Once long ago I sent a large heavy package from Boston to Greece. Inside the box were at least 3 features on four hundred foot reels. What was supposed to be 4 to 6 weeks ended up at 2 months. It finally arrived - with no explanation as for the delay.

But after the first 6 weeks, I was threatened with legal action as the guy refused to want to wait. Just as the legal formalities were about to begin, he emailed me to say it had been delivered and everything was in good shape.

I can understand why a seller would put a limit on an auction. Not sure if I would do it myself.........

As for not being able to trace it I disagree. Tracking numbers are available almost immediately depending on the service used. And even when a package comes from another service internationally - such as originating in the UK going to the US - the United States Postal system will have the international tracking numbers in their system - even though they might not actually have the package.

I can see being skeptical on receiving a package perhaps...but sending...?
Who cares as long as they pay [Smile]
Thanx for the input guys!

I was in a similar situation, (as some might remember) with a very late package and i have to say that if a person would want to buy a film from me and it was going to certain countries, i wouldn't necessarity discriminate against that country, but would make it very clear that if it ships to that country that the person should expect possible delays and that i would insist on tracking and signature ...

but with some countries, even that doesn't keep the package from taking forever.

Also, after the situation with Italy last winter, i certainly wouldn't want to ship over there during the holidays. It doesn't mean that the same "deal' would be happening again with Italian post, but i wouldn't want to chance it.

I'm betting that those sellers have just had one too many bad experiences with the post to (fill in the blank) country.

I have used Ebay for nearly 20 years and have sent parcels all over the world. Always must be tracked or no compensation from Ebay.

But some countries are poor. Italy, Portugal, Malta, China and the Russian Federation was (IS?) a joke. Parcels can remain in customs for over 3 months!!

I am not sure why UK to certain parts of Europe is poor, but many go missing and take a long time.

Just my 2 pennies worth..........

I'd be interested to know if members who have found certain countries problematic to send packages TO would also say there are issues if you're buying FROM sellers in those countries, or are their postal services much better when it comes to letting items leave the country?

I have received parcels from Italy and China and have no problem. But I beleive this since outgoing mails/parcels do not need custom authorities to check them.

The frequent problems with incoming mails/parcels are lying mostly on custom.

i certainly wouldn't use the word Discriminate. That has a different meaning to "will not ship to". In the past i myself have refused to ship to a couple of countries for a couple of reasons.
1/ Postage is too much and once i had a customer moan at me at the cost, even though i showed a receipt before sending and after, so i soon binned him off and cut out the rest of the that country,
2/ Another country ive binned off was due to the fact they said they hadn't recieved an item, yet i had a signature. Once i put it through the resolution centre that ended that problem as well well as that country. [Wink]
