A question for our British members. I Always thought that Pathescope ended its activities in 1960. When I saw a vide of a super 8 Pathescope projector on YouTube, I first imagined it was another projector with a Pathescope plate Added. But at the end of the video, the cover put on the projector seems to be genuine. Could that be a modified Pathescope standard 8 machine ? Or did Pathescope closed its 9.5 department in 1960 ? Or is it something else ? If I judge by the way the upper loop looks like on the video, the author seems not to be a cine specialist so everything is possible.

Thanks, Bryan ! Your link has a picture of the projector and the comment says : " Great Universal Stores (who had purchased Pathéscope around 1960 really for the brand name) used a rebranded Super 8mm Specto P1 to sell in their various mail-order catalogues".

For many years I was an agent on behalf of Great Universal with their mail order catalogue which my wife passed around her friends in the local Young Wives Group. I wasn't impressed when items which clearly were not Pathesccpe origin started to appear badged as Pathescope. Some were cine related such as screens and projector stands, but there were also binoculars. As mentioned above, Great Universal just bought the name "Pathescope" for advertising diverse products in their range of catalogues, although I doubt that many young people (the main customers) would have even heard of the name. So perhaps it wasn't a very good idea of Great Universal to have purchased the name.

Used the pathescope super 8 cine camera quite a bit and remember filming the Dutch 9.5 international with it to great effect. People were fascinated to see the camera.
