When I was first notified that the Ocean Holiday, our home base for the past 18 shows was closing down for renovations, I thought we would have to cancel the October show. Luckily a new (terrific) venue was found quickly, a new date set and and the CineSea 20 Film Collectors Weekend will indeed take place, starting with the Friday Night Feature screening on the evening of October 11th and continuing with the full day/night event on October 12th.
CineSea is more of an intimate gathering than a convention. It's a group of people getting together to share their love of film. The weekend is spent watching, buying, selling, trading film and film equipment in gauges from 8mm to 35mm. For me, the best part is hanging out and talking about film with fellow collectors, along with going out for as many group breakfasts and dinners as possible!
Ten years ago, John Black & Shorty Caruso started CineSea with the idea that the film collector deserves an affordable show (Admission is free) to both promote camaraderie and keep this amazing hobby going. If you have film or equipment to sell, dealer tables are available for only $30 and you can rent as many as you like. Lou Franchetti and his son Louis will be there with stacks of 8mm and 16mm. To reserve a table you can email/PM myself or Lou. If you'd like a table please let us know soon as they go quickly.
Friday Night Feature: If you're going to join us and have a print you'd really like to show, we'll soon be asking you to list the title/format here and we'll have an online survey to pick the winner. Elvis loomed large in IB Tech and scope last time as Todd Tuckey's 16mm print of "Roustabout" was the winner.
The Saturday show starts at 10 AM and many, many projectors will be running non-stop and many, many films will trade hands right up to the group dinner. Upon our return we start our Saturday night screenings, which always run past midnight. Bring what you'd like to show (under 20 minutes, please!).
In addition, there's a beautiful beach just a block away and you can always check out the famed Wildwood Boardwalk and Mariner's Amusement Pier, open during the weekend. If you'd like to stop by Atlantic City, it's only 30 minutes away.
More and more people have been arriving on Thursday to help set up, go out to dinner and then screen whatever we feel like. If you can make it a day early, please come!
If you've never attended, please take a look at CineSea 19 in Pictures, CineSea 18 Picture Show, CineSea 17 Saga, along with Todd Tuckey's video of an earlier event.
Our new location:
The Shalimar Resort and Conference Center is only a block away from the Ocean Holiday. Lou & I have talked with the staff and they are truly looking forward to hosting CineSea. Please check out their website. I think our attendees will be happy with the accommodations, the fitness center (w/steam room!) and the large conference center that we'll be in.

I think first and foremost a very large "THANK YOU" needs to go out to Doug, Lou, and Shorty. To find out this late in the game that we no longer had a venue, had to be stressful (to say the least!!). AND to have been able to secure a replacement on such short notice, shows just how dedicated the principals that run CineSea care about the hobby, the collectors, and the gathering. I don't think it's often realized just how much "behind the scenes" take place in planning this event for us collectors every 6 months. So gentlemen, I would like to sincerely say, "THANK YOU" for all of your tireless, hard work!
The date change was actually a blessing in disguise, as the original date of 10/18 - 10/20 ended up having something come up for my daughter's school, almost causing me to miss most of the event (regular attendees over the last few years know my bad luck with something ALWAYS coming up the weekend of a CineSea event). Thankfully this date change worked to my favor!!
I will be coming in early Thursday as well as reserving a table. My family is coming down on Friday, and we're all staying the weekend (gasp!! TWO CineSea events in a row that I am able to stay at for the full event!).
Looking forward to seeing everyone and can't wait to see the new space!! Thanks again Doug/Lou/Shorty!!!
