Hello,
I have a Canon Zoom 518 Super 8 that I need a professional to have a look at and service it. Is there any such service in or around London?
The camera’s motor and shutters work fine and they sound fine.
The issue I have is the exposure meter. I’ve inserted new batteries that operate the meter, however when I look through the viewfinder, the needle wobbles slightly, moves past the “1.8” f-stop mark and then swings back to the far left and stays there. The meter also controls the auto-aperture feature I believe.
1. Could there be an issue with the circutry connecting the meter and aperture?
2. Could the aperture be stuck, frozen and hence the needle not being able to move if it’s linked to the aperture?
3. A faulty connection between the battery compartment and the light meter?
4. The camera is supposed to use two mercury batteries, 1.3v each. However mercury batteries are not available. The best that I could find were 1.5v each, 625G. Could this be an issue?
Any advice would be much appreciated. Shame to let a camera in the condition it’s in go to waste.
Thank you,
