Hi all,

New here - just found this site yesterday.

I've been cleaning out and found my old Super 8 print of John Carpenter's Dark Star. It's 4 reels, colour and sound and from what I can tell it's in excellent condition. I've never put it through a projector as I never managed to acquire one over the years.

I'm looking to sell it and thought that this forum might be the place.

Can anyone tell me what this might be worth?

I guess someone else got it, since he has no email on his profile, and hasn't answered the message/post yet...

Yes I put together a traveling program of shorts by Dan O'Bannon and John Carpenter called SHOCK VALUE THE MOVIE: How Dan O'Bannon and some USC outsiders Helped invent Modern Horror . It is actually playing in NYC in a couple of weeks for the film society of Lincoln Center, so since I have those guys on the brain, when I saw this I thought "excellent" I'll watch Dark Star at home....BUT after email, PM and posting here, with no replies I am guessing someone contacted him and already claimed it....

or, perhaps, (fingers crossed) the person saw that there is certainly interest and they may put it up on ebay?

At any rate, could the seller please let everyone know if the film is sold? [Smile]

This was an Iver films release and it was very well edited. I sold mine some years ago after picking up the 4 x 400 feature and it is a great cult classic. Made by John carpenter and Dan or Bannan during there student years.

I hate to be a wet blanket, guys; but he said he never bought a projector and yet the film appears to be in excellent condition. Doesn't that raise a red flag or two? Let me say that I'm not accusing him of anything, I'm just curious.

Joe
Good point but he came and went so fast that either someone did buy it and could follow up on quality, or he posted the listing, then got a projector, realized it was in bad shape had second thoughts, decided to keep it, lost the film in a bet, sold it on craig's list, accidentally dropped it in water, saw that the title was actually Dark Victory, opened the boxes and realized there was no film in there, saw my name and said "Oh no", or lost his password to the forum, since he is clearly not coming back to address any questions..

Hi fellow collectors I sent the seller a question about buying the film from him shortly after seeing the post and he said that although the film has been sitting there for a while he had become rather attached to it so didnt want to sell.I advised him he should get a projector and watch it.
Thanks
Tim

So happy that Geoff signed up to the forum to list a film for sale that he doesn't want to sell, even though he has never been able to use it...

People are awesome! [Confused]
