Hi, here in the USA, TRUE GRIT was released in FL, 4x400 and 400 digest. A trailer was also released.
I'm unaware of UK releases.
Thanks for tip on Der Marshal, I'll look at it.
I'm adding here a post from Duke Pilgrim regarding known John Wayne releases.
quote: List of John Wayne movie available on Super 8
I have listed below what movies are available on super 8 relating to John Wayne.
Package Super 8 movies were sold to collectors from early 1970s to mid 1980s Although the odd title still appeared after that date.
Initially only edited highlights of films were issued in 200 foot and 400 foot reels.
These came in an array of formats Black & White Silent, Colour Silent, Black & White Sound and Colour Sound.
Most of these titles were sold in cardboard boxes with artwork from the film or plastic clam shell cases
As time went by long versions of movies were issued to collectors until full length features were available.
In addition, to official releases were production/distribution rights had been gained by the issuing company a number of bootleg /pirate prints of much sought after features have also been printed using a16mm negative or print.
Most of these type of prints would have problems with scratches negative damage or sound faults.
Other unusual titles to surface were theatrical trailers and production reels used for marketing purposes.
Super 8 despite it small collector base can attract high prices and the likes of features can sell for hundreds of pounds.
Problems with super 8 as well as its cost are as follows:-
Colour fade Films prior to the introduction of low fade stocks of super 8 in the 1980s can be prone to colour fade were the colours of a film can diminish to browny reds. This is a bit like Russian roulette as different stacks of film are affected in different ways and degrees. Storage of film in cool dry conditions are recommended and countries with wide varying temperatures (such as USA) seem to have more films effected by colour fade than say Europe.
Damage - Super 8 film is easily damaged by scratching which can occur by using poorly maintained/cleaned projectors. Also, because the sound is recorded on small oxide strips similar to cassette tape this can be damaged by poor storage or handling. Equipment The last new super 8 projectors were made in late 1970s and early 1980s. This means latest machines are at least 25 years old. Unless you buy from a reputable source such as a dealer there is on guarantee that your machine will work or not damage the film. If interested in using a projector ask lots of questions and if possible see machine working DO NOT BUY FROM EBAY AS THIS IS A CASE OF PAY YOUR MONEY TAKE YOUR CHANCE.
As mentioned, there are a number of reputable dealers who sell second hand equipment and will guarantee working of machine for a least 3 months from purchase. I can recommend companies such as Perrys Paul Foster Films and Independent 8 for equipment.
Most John Wayne fans with the availability of DVD and Video I think will not make the effort of being a fully fledged film collector.
However as a piece of memorabilia from a by gone age the smaller versions of films in colour packaging make a nice addition to a collection.
