With two ELMOs and only one is use, I thought I'd be practical about it and try to trade it for 16 mm unit!

So up for trade is my trusty ELMO ST-180M, fitted with new belts and bulb (about 8-10 hours use so far) and the original 1.3 lens. The projector is in tip-top shape, with one exception: the speed control knob that selects 16 or 24 fps was broken during shipment, so it only runs 24 fps. This can easily be fixed by someone who is familar with these machines so it's really not an issue.

I am looking to trade this for a 16 mm machine with sound and decent reel capacity. Let me know [Smile]

Christian, unless you can find someone nearby, the problem with trading heavy stuff is the shipping cost.

I have a Bell & Howell 16mm projector in near mint condition (never been used). It is almost 17kg.

The cost of shipping with packing by surface (sea mail) will be $151.22 or airmail $321 !!.

Just in case I am doing a favor for giving this projector for free, will you spend that much money for paying the shipping?

Almost all collectors would know that a 16mm projector can be bought less than that (check Ebay).

A good (well known brand) super 8mm projector has better price and easy to sell than the ordinary well known 16mm projectors.

My advise is to sell your super 8mm projector and find locally (or a bit further in Europe mainland) for your 16mm projector

Winbert, in such a case, the shipping cost would be pretty equal both ways, so it would have to be an agreement upon the deal. In this case for instance, I would gladly cover a majority of the shipping cost, as I really want a 16 mm machine [Big Grin]

Christian, what I am saying is that a good well-known 16mm projector such as Bell & Howell, Eiki, Singer, etc. can be bought (at least here in North America) for around $60-90,

This can happen because in 1970s almost all schools and Universities must have 16mm projectors like what happen with today's LCD projector.

Nowadays, they are lying unused resulting very low price compared to Super 8mm.

If I were you , I will sell my Elmo ST 180 which would easily go to around $150 and find a 16mm locally. I will still have extra money with this way. But that if the abundant of 16mm projector also happens in Norway.

I'm not sure there are many 16mm machines in good condition at such a low price as $60-$90 here in the UK, Winbert.

Michael, the problem is that the market for both 8mm and 16mm in Norway, hell, Scandinavia in general, is non-existant.

Trading/selling abroad is the only option.

Christian, that is not quite true. On the Swedish site Tradera there is often 16MM projectors for sale. (And 8MM to)
Right now there are several on offer. But hurry to check, the three most interesting right now ends tomorrow afternoon. (12/10 between 15,30-16,00)

I myself bought three 16MM projectors through them last year, two Bauer and one B & H, all in excellent condition.
The prices tend to end around 300-500 SKR plus postage.
Some sends international, some don't. But with all the Norwegians that live here in Sweden now I bet you know someone who knows someone that lives here and who could help you transporting it to you.

Lars, I was not aware of that, thanks for the heads up! In Norway tho, the market is quite dim. There is the occasional bit and bob popping up on FINN.no og QXL, but they are usually posted by people who find the stuff lying around in their attics etc.

Had a 50' silent Chaplin a couple of weeks ago, marked as a "One-time rarity! Amazing! First Chaplin film ever!" with a starting bid of 1000 NOK! (almost 175 dollars!)

Thing is, the small format never really got to Norway before VHS took over in the 80s, at least according to those I have spoken with. Sure, it was popular as a recording medium, but that was pretty much it!

In the UK, good condition B&H, EIKI, BAUER tend to sell for on average £100 which is almost $160, Winbert.

Christian, you actually don't need a PayPal account to be on Tradera. On the mentioned auction you are supposed to pay direcly into the sellers bankaccount. I have the same arrangement when I sell stuff on there, then you don't need to pay any extra fees like on PayPal.
I have even bought my GS1200 (from Germany), and some films (within Europe) by paying the sellers direct to their account.

Jim, almost all countries in Europe have the same voltage (220-240V), and even the same electrical contact, so you can use the same cord in most countries. The most notable exception is the UK, they have a completely different contact. (But still the same voltage)
I did some research into this before I bought the GS1200, so I could be sure I could use it without major mods.
