For the team of "Cine 8-16" (a German magazine for "reel film"), Christmas came already a couple of days earlier, when we received the 16mm scope prints of our first own film release, "The Pastilles". The first-run prints were dispatched in metal cans with colour labels and accompanied by a 12-page colour booklet as well as a numbered certificate and an autograph card signed by the director.

"Les Pastilles" is a Scope short with a running time of about 14'30, shot by a German team in the south of France. As the only spoken dialogue consists of the words "Oui" and "Non", it can be easily understood all around the world.

A review will be published in the forthcoming issue of "Cine 8-16"

I'm so glad to see that you were able to get this done!! WEre you able to eventaully use the negative we made together? If not, I'm still glad that you were able to do it! Magnificent! How often do we have new 16MM releases? (they are rarer than super 8 releases I bet!)

This sounds fantastic - congratulations to all involved! What sort of story is it? I was just thinking it would be great to have some scope 16mm shorts! And how much would a print cost me, if you can break the news gently?

All I have managed to find is these basic credits:

My understanding is this release is exclusive to subscribers of Cine 8-16( great magazine a shame it not available in English text) for aprox 195 euros,a licence for a small batch to be printed( polyester Agfa stock) was granted for free by the films producer- nice.

A previous issue of the Cine8-16 came with a form and an ad for the film. My translation:

I order ___ copies of the 16mm-movie "les pastilles" (CinemaScope, optical sound, colour) at the price of 185€ each. I'll pay this price plus 6,90€ shipping (inside of Germany, incl. insurance, with dhl) or 17€ (Europe, incl. insurance, dhl) as soon as I'll get the invoice. Payment will be in advance and via bank-transfer. (shipping of the first batch of films is planned for September / October 2012)

Last name, first name
Street, number
Zip-code, city (country when not Germany)
Phone email
Date signature

Exclusive for subscribers of the cine8-16: "les pastilles"
Full-length version of the short-movie on 16mm
CinemaScope

The film was shot in 1997 in CinemaScope in southern France in the province "Languedoc-Roussillon". The film is nearly without dialogues. In approx. 15 minutes it tells the strange story of a French winery-owner that gets betrayed by his wife and takes cruel revenge...

In 1998 the film won the German "Filmband in Silber"-Award for short movies. <some more awards/ positive feedback here>
It has been the first German production to use the -then new- hawk anamorphic lenses, that also have been used by George Lucas later on in "star wars - episode 1" (1999)

A brand new 35mm-positive-print was made from the original negatives. This 35mm-print serves as master for the 16mm-prints. The license for a small batch for collectors was granted for free by the producer.

Film will be shipped...
  • In a representative 240m-box with colored labels.
  • On polyester based Fuji film stock
  • Incl. a booklet (12pages) with background information and photos for/from/of the film
  • An Autograph card from the film's director
Les pastilles/the pills
Germany/France 1997
Director and script: Manfred Berger
Camera: etc. :-)Length: 14 minutes and 30 seconds
Color, CinemaScope

Fabrizio:
The lab we are working with, "Film 16" in Bad Honnef/Germany, can only handle 16mm. So - sorry, no Super 8 prints.

Osi:
No, we had to have another picture negative made as well as a sound negative here in Germany. This was only possible by private donations.

Adrian:
As Joerg Polzfusz already posted: It's the bizarre story of a robust French winemaker who finds out that his fragile wife has an affair with the local pharmacist.
You can watch kind of a "trailer", with seems to have been put together by the cameraman himself: http://vimeo.com/9520132

Adrian and Dino:
The first print run has been sold. Two prints have been delivered to Steve Osborne who seems to be interested in distributing "Les Pastilles" (The Pills) in the United States. I suppose that if prints are sent to the USA, they may not contain the "extras" such as the metal can, the booklet etc. in order to keep postage expenses down.

Hi Dino,

please use the email-addresses from this PDF (and the PDF to subscribe):
http://celluloidfilm.de/download/flyer.pdf
Looks like only prices for Germany and Europe are listed on the webpage... not sure if the USA are more expensive than Europe (as the shipping costs with "Deutsche Post" are the same for Europe and USA - when using the "slowest"/"cheapest" shipping method).

Hi Dino,

currently, the delivery of a copy from Germany to the U.S. will cost as much as within Europe. Thus, a subscription to America can be offered at the same price (4 issues for 44 euros overall, shipping included). The amount would be payable by bank transfer to our account in Germany or via PayPal with a small extra charge. But consider: "Cine 8-16" is in German, English-language articles are included only occasionally ;-)

We publish 4 issues per year. The next edition (no. 25) will be in late March. But you can also refer the 4 issues of 2012, including no. 24 (december 2012) with the review of "The Pills".

Bye

Uwe

There was never a second print run. But one print is currently offered on "mediavana.de":
