Would the 16MM Sound Film Projector EIKI SL-1 be a reasonably solid project to occasionally view 16 mm sound film? I am looking at eBay.

I have two EIKI'S RT-0 projectors and I really like them. They are solid work horses and built really well and any EIKI that you get you will be really happy with the way they perform.

I bought an EIKI SL-1 on eBay for $123.50, loaded up a 45 minute film and out came picture and sound. Amazing. The projector case is a little beat up and the handle is hinky, but the machine really works. The film from 1967, has suffered VS and has no blue or yellow left, but can't blame the projector.
Is it easy to clean the film gate on the EIKI projectors?

Claude...If you have film editing software you can do a lot to restore some of the missing color after you have digitized it. Here is an example of film I have restored from 1947.

The front section of the gate just pulls out towards you. Pull the top section after releasing the catch and it swings down and pulls away.

The fixed rear section can then also be cleaned.

I use Final Cut Pro X and may try to color correction. The results of your correction is quite impressive. I have done minor color correction on a my more recent videos, so it is worth a shot once I get it digitized.

FCP has good color correction tools,which should improve the color. I use Adobe Premiere Pro on a PC for editing and color correction. In the sample I also used Fred's AVISYNTH Restoration scripts with VirtualDub (Windows Only), which I just noticed Fred has updated. I'll have to check out the new scripts [Smile]

the EIKI SL1 has an audio out jack. Anyone know what type of connector is needed? I also wonder if the output level is appropriate for running into a microphone input on a camcorder. I suppose I could order the operating manual from one of the eBay guys that photocopy them and then charge an arm and a leg, but what is the fun in that?

The output is a 1/4" jack socket for connection to a speaker of 8 ohms.
