Has anyone tried to use a video camera at 24 frames per second to digitize 16 mm film via projection? I know that the right way is with a 5 blade shutter and then capture at 30 frames per second, but I don't have one and the 45 minute film is not worth paying 30 cents/foot to copy.

You can also try using an 30 frame/60 field video camera which has a synchro-scan shutter with a regular 3-blade 24 fps 16mm projector. Adjust the scan until the shutter bar disappears. I do this all the time with super 8.

Claude, I generally use the variable shutter speed method with my Canon A1 as John described. However, I have used 24fps/3-blade shutter on my Elmo 16-CL and set my Canon HF-200 camcorder to 24fps. Synchronization is good.

Using my EIKI and Canon XA10 on 24P the results were definitely better than at 60 i. While the video image doesn't flicker, It has sort of a light and dark band running through it, probably caused by the lack of synchronization. With my Canon on 24 P I can set the shutter speed at 1/6, 1/12, 1/24, 1/48 etc. Recommender shutter speed?

So my EIKI SL-1 runs at 1440 or 24 fps and has a 3 blade shutter so their are 72 images per second.

Claude...I set my Canon on 24P to TV/Shutter Priority Mode at 1/24 (1/48 should work too.)
