Can anyone tell me whether this 400ft tin originally held unexposed film, or pre-printed film for projection. Also, can anyone date it. Thanks.

Possibly neither; I believe Kodak may have sold this type of can as an accessory for storing home movies (reels too.) The inside bottom of the can may have a perforated plate in it, this was to hold a blotter on which a few drops of a film moisturizing liquid would be put to prevent brittleness. May date back to the 1930's or 40's.
