From a recent Ebay UK auction the seller said quote: ELMO 16A, JAPAN MADE 16 MM OPTICAL AND MAGNECTICAL SOUND/SILENT AUTOMATIC THREADING PROJECTOR,IT HAS VERY GOOD ELMO 50MM LENS F.1.3, MADE IN JAPAN BY ELMO,IT HAS 24VOLTS X 250 WATTS LAMP ALSO HAS 2 SPEAKER IN COVER,IT IS 24 AND 18FPS,THAT'S SOUND AND SILENT SPEED,IT TAKES UP TO 2.200 FOOT SPOOL,MICROPHONE CONECTIONS,
I think this is a projector from the early to mid 1970s.

Unlike Maurice I have never owned an Elmo 16mm projector but they have a good reputation. All the leading makes from the 1960s to 1980s made well-engineered, tough, long-lived machines for professional use in schools, universities and industry but remember they were only designed for 15 to 20 years of fairly intensive use and the survivors are usually over 25 years old so minor faults are common. This forum has mentioned most of the troubles with Elmo, Bell & Howell, Bauer, Eiki and Kodak. Spare parts may be a problem with Elmo, Bell & Howell suffer from failure of the original worm gears but otherwise are as good as any projectors ever made. I don't have experience with Bauer or Kodak but Eiki (known as Elf in the UK) are easy to repair and good performers.
