Did you knew that every movie can be bought on 16mm lately ?
Not cheap , but I know where. Anybody interested in a certain title on 16mm , the prints will be LPP Scope if made in Scope and polyester film stock. Price according to duration.
ANY movie ... That's quiet a few hundred thousands of titles.

Hello Gilbert

Is this a completely new venture or are you effectively becoming an agent for the already available 16mm printing services from our Italian cine friend - no names mentioned - shall we call him 'M' ?

If yours is a new venture I would be interested to know your prices per minute in comparison to his.

It would interest me too if this extended to Super 8mm magnetic striped films.

It's a new contact that offered me the service, I had no idea this was already done in Italy. True somebody should do the same for Super 8. The problem is always money I guess.

Where will the striped Super 8 stock come from though Andrew - like you I would be interested but this is where 16mm with an optical track has the advantage ie: no mag stripe required.

Super 8mm Optical would be better than nothing for us all but I thought Andec were still putting out mag striped film and if so, why can't others?

The ability to successfully and continually paste stripe polyester really does need addressing nowadays.

Surely it cannot be beyond the realms of possibility or even laminating it again in a darkroom first.

To me its essential if either Ferrania or Kodak finally come up with the goods again...IF.

Phil at CHC in recent times has always spoken of very low demand for any new 16mm releases he proposes but he has been able to still put Super 8mm new films into circulation.
From this, I'd say the demand for new prints on eight must be far higher.

I'm sure Andec could apply paste stripe to exposed Super 8 film of any stock but then it would need recording as well so a very expensive multi stage process - this is where 16mm optical sound printing is more affordable for these types of one off jobs. I sincerely hope someone does come up with an affordable Super 8 solution but it wont be for me unless the same price per minute or less than 16mm.

I'd take them mute Kevin but with a decent stripe applied.

In fact, chances are I'd only finish up recording them again anyway to be completely satisfied judging by the newer shorts I've experienced from CHC a few years back.

A lot of us these days have an Elmo Mag/Op super 8mm projector, so if the cost of producing super 8mm mag striped film is an issue over the cost of supplying optical track 16mm (and I use both formats) why not make super 8mm optical sound prints? this is what was done at one stage when supplying airlines with super 8mm optical sound prints for in-flight screenings to airline companies. Just my 2 pence worth. [Smile]

With the kind of sums involved it just makes it a ridiculous price for a "movie" and strictly for the few well off of the world?
Apart from that £3000, (mentioned) for 90 minutes is ,IMHO, where Dave Hardy's sanity check is needed.
Why would anyone actually pay that? [Confused]

How very sad that on a film dedicated forum, we even have to concern ourselves with ex collector kill joys and therefore are forced to discuss behind closed doors.

Presumably ex collectors of film here, have moved on to "bigger and better things" in their opinions and if this is indeed the case, what do they have to gripe about here?

Don't think studio bosses would be too happy. Throughout most of my collecting history few up to date titles have been legally on sale. Most have come into the market through the demise of the format as libraries have closed. Are we talking latest titles, because, if so, we shall risk returning to the days when collectors were visited by unwelcome guests. Having said that, the price alone will keep the requests down to a handful I suspect.
