I received this 16mm projector as a gift and have a few questions.

It will be primarily a display item but I do want to run some film through it and to that end have purchased a small roll of double-perf off eBay.

The projector seems to run pretty well. I've put a little oil down each oil hole that I see but it turning it over by hand seems kind of tight but I don't know how it ought to be. So question number one is how to open it to check out the mechanism.

I don't have a bulb and probably won't waste money on the correct bulb for something that will not be used but I do have some 100W halogen bi-pin bulbs and sockets from back when I used to service KEM flatbed editing machines so I think I can shove that up the lamp housing and it should be good enough to throw a picture on a screen.

The projector seems to have a perforated light reducing shutter presumably so one can still frame without burning the film. It is not lifting away when the projector runs so what can anyone tell me about that? Another reason I need to get inside.

BTW, from what I can tell it has a single blade shutter that seems to come through 3X per frame. My optical measurements indicate 16 fps & 48 flashes per second so that all ties.

Can you operate the still frame control?
It may be stuck in the still position if the safety shutter is in place.

I can operate the still frame control and it makes no different. What does the knurled silver knob in front of the blower housing do? Not sure if it's belt tension or something else. It does slow down the projector but seems like that comes from too much friction of some sort.

Just noticed something odd. The fire shutter *does* lift...when running in reverse. Not on forward. Hmmm.

On my B & H Filmosound 631 this is a clutch,when you engage it then the rewinding is faster [Smile]

The knob to which you refer is probably a manual speed control, it just drags on the mechanism somehow, rather a primitive idea.

The still frame shutter that only operates in reverse is a rather strange problem, and quite frankly this is something that I can't answer, not knowing the projector.

Can someone explain how to open that part of the projector? I don't want to go in blindly and have the mechanism fall apart. If I can understand how it works I might be able to fix it otherwise I would just remove the fire shutter for the time being.
