Owners of the Bell & Howell TQI models know that the projectors have a separate mirror for the A1/235 quartz lamps. Unfortunately, over time, the mirrors develop problems with their reflective surface. Also, the lamps are now obsolete and when available as new/old stock they can be quite expensive.
The answer is to have a conversion to use the readily available A1/259 (ELC) lamp. These are also reasonably priced and can be obtained from many sources.
I have just collected two such models from Kevin Brown of Nottingham who has done a superb job of the conversion. The old mirror has gone, as has the old lamp holder. The original "pull down" lamp assembly has been modified with a new lamp holder with catches to securely locate the ELC lamp. The electrical connection is by a new flying lead terminating in a 2-pin ceramic connector.
The best model for the conversion is the one with the two position lamp switch as this allows a longer lamp life on the lower setting.
Kevin has obviously put a lot of thought, and work, into making the conversion and I can thoroughly recommend any TQI owner to consider such a conversion. Also, of course, whilst with Kevin the projector will have a general check-over to ensure a further long life.
In my case, a lot of other work, including new worms, has really rejuvenated my projectors.
Thank you, Kevin.
