I just realized my favorite TV show is not on any more and am very saddened. I don't feel compelled to even click my remote lately.

Great show! It enjoyed a revival when I was a teenager and I liked it a lot.
It was filmed on the streets of New York. They painted the show's patrol cars red instead of black so the public wouldn't think they were real police. In Black and White the viewing audience couldn't tell the difference.
Theyre's a holdup in the Bronx! Brooklyn's broken out in fights! There's a traffic jam in Harlem that's backed up to Jackson Heights! There's a scout troop short a child! Khrushchev’s due at Idlewild!

I met Fred Gwynne at a publishing party for a book he authored. He was a great actor who could never quite get away from the Herman Munster image.

Doug,
That's quite an achievement and one to be proud of, but let's not forget the 100's of parts Fred played that are not shown now.
Once Fred was just a twinkle in his father's eye. He soon became the over looming bigger than life character with a fractured sense of humor that drifted into the part of Herman Munster. Soon he was separated from other roles by stereo typing. Are any of his roles better than others? Hmmmm....Maybe.
I'm sure he would have liked for them all to be as equally renowned as Herman, but that will never happen because of the casting department! The best he could hope for was to co-star.
That's what Fred does best! Co-star for his fans. His roles can be enjoyed by all without having to be part of the film crew.
We can all buy more than one ticket and still enjoy the show.
Let his large looming britches be filled to the walls.

Round about '87 I started watching this on NICK AT NITE, and it immediately became a favorite for me. They stopped showing it shortly after, and I haven't seen it now for 20 years. In the '70's as a kid, I watched so many reruns of old shows but this was never on in the New York City area.
My favorite episode was the one where a rumor started about a night out that everyone pretended they knew about. It ended with them all dressed up and no place to go! I remember Al Lewis (as Schanuser) finally saying, "Someone has to say it! -- Where are we going!?" Hilarious. There was another one I loved where they all got mixed up about what day of the week it was.
