I just bought a brand new Gateway SX series HD desktop. Now, I have never opened it, never tinkered with it. All I've done is upload a few programs onto the computer and none of them relate to the DVD drive ...
the drivers for my DVD drive on the computer are completely missing. In fact, while the DVD drive has power, (it opens closes and loads up DVD's) the desktop doesn't even acknowledge the existence of the DVD drive. I called Gateway and they, for a "one time fee" will come to my house to dowload drivers into my computer. BLOODY HELL! I just bought this thing new, and the DVD dirvers just up and disappear?
I have a 13 year old pentium 4 Dell that the DVD driver has never failed on me, nor has the drivers ever come up missing? Why the hell would that happen?!
Therefore I ask you fine folks for help ...
The model of DVD RAM drive is this ...
HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH70N
... Can anybody get ahold of these drivers and (if the file size is small enough) e-mail them to me, or give me a link to where I can download them?
I thank you for your time.

SUCCESS!! I had to do about four times but I finally got my DVD drive in my new computer back up and running!
1. I attempted system restore. Because of the virus protection I had, a file that was needed was not accesible.
2. I got rid of Norton protection. Tried again. Same error message.
3. Got rid of Avast protection as well. This time when I was to attempt it, it stated that the WIN DVD program would be deleted.
4. When I restarted the computer this time, without the WIN DVD, the DVD worked again.
Apparantly, the WIN DVD I uploaded, turned off "Power DVD" and the drivers must havce been linked to the Power DVD.
Needless to say, SUCCESS!!

Im in Windows 8 which, quite frankly, I don't enjoy as much as windows Vista or even XP. Too many damned unecessary features and "windows all over it.
Oh, by the way,
I've look all over, but I can't seem to get the windows Media player to give me all those nice psycedelic imagery that is the hallmark of the media player, whgen you play music.
All i get is this wall-paper that shows some rediculous hedphones that occasionally changes a color hear and there. BORING!! I want my halucinagenic colors back!
