I have no experience in film collecting and I just left the following auction ... I was the higher bidder at 80.50 but I decided not to make the last click... I was wrong or I was right?... I lost a bargain or not?...Waiting for my first collecting film lesson real time..

30 films for less than 3 pound each, so am wondering why Maurice and Michael thought it best not to proceed with the bid. They were described as very good to mint. Not everybody's cup of tea, but good for a beginner. My opinion anyway.

Thank you very much for your replies, I thought it was very easy to win this auction for a newbie, so I didn't click and it seems that I was right. I would like to hear the "why"/reason this auction was without interest. Take your time.
I feel that I am in an ocean and I don't have any stable point, I am waiting for my first book but every help [guidance] would be welcomed.
In fact, [forget the auction's films, I would like to have Disney films for my nephews], I am interested in collecting avant - garde silent and sound movies (list) but I don't know how many of these films are super8 released...
My dream is watching a film like "Man with a Movie Camera" using my home projector ... by the way, are there super8 releases of Russian movies?

If you want decent second-hand films I would recommend buying from Paul Foster. There is a price, and no need to do any bidding. Paul has been a dealer for many years, and previously was with Derann. http://www.fosterfilms.co.uk/

Thank you Maurice, just read a thread about the Derann's end and there is a Tom Photiou's message where 4 reliable sources are mentioned : "perrys, indi,P Foster and CHC" ... I'll take a look.

Maurice; didn't understand your statement about having a long memory; is the seller known to you?, or is there another reason you thought it best not to proceed.

Dimitris, You should add Super8Warehouse (The Netherlands) to your list of vendors. Like all the others you mentioned, Bert has quality films and great service, and his website is constantly updated....

Thanks Mal, message read and understood. I changed my settings so should get notifications in future. I usually buy from Paul Foster and CHC; have 2 coming next week. You can buy with confidence from them.

Looks like there's more to know about Retro-V-ision than we're going to learn publicly. Otherwise that didn't look like too bad of a deal for the lot.
