I took this picture Friday night at a local store.

My greatest hope is the way things have been going they aren't actually getting ready for Christmas 2015!

When I was a kid, Christmas started two weeks before the 24th December. Now, it starts two months before !

My local Tesco store has had Christmassy stuff in for about 4 weeks. At least they aren't playing the music yet.

It's still true:

What they didn't tell you is it's become about 6 months long!

What was it that Scrooge said?

"I shall keep the spirit of Christmas in my heart all the year long,"

-maybe he started this!

(Although the true spirit of Christmas...maybe not so much!)

Last week I was listening to the radio and one of the contestants of the music quiz said he'd had his first Christmas card, I thought at the time you've got to be joking! !! Mark

I wonder if its my age thing, but I see it as nothing more than a time for stores to make lots of money and for many folk, to get into debt that they simply cant afford.

Its not in my view, what Christmas is all about, but that's what it has become lots and lots of humbug [Big Grin]

It's not an age thing Graham, it's become exactly that.

Thing is the real spirit of the holiday is a chance to just stop and appreciate all that's truly good in life among the people you love. It's so easily lost in the hysteria these days.

This store sells a particularly annoying string of tree lighting that when you push a button it plays this over the top electronic "Jingle Bells" and flashes in rhythm to it.

-every year, just around the first weekend in December my son and I walk up to the shelves, push about 80 buttons and run for the paint department about as fast as we can when we're almost doubled over laughing.

You see, it's the traditions that become special memories!

From Stan Freberg, one of the great American satirists. My Dad (who was a big fan) brought this 45 record home one day and over the years it became one of my favorite all time Christmas records. It's funny how you pick up your life lessons as a child. So I guess Graham, your sentiments regarding the over commercialisation of Christmas at least date back to 1958. And probably further. Too bad the message wasn't loud enough but I'd like to think we're getting there a little.

OK, folks might hate me (or laugh at me), but we put up our tree (fake, but decent looking) already, but for a very good reason.

We were shooting (I and my family), a brand new video for a new Christmas Rock N Roll song for this year and after we filmed it, well, heck, I just like seeing that thing lit up! [Big Grin]

Glad you enjoyed the video Clay....the kids in it were very natural.

Well we are well and truly into the hole Christmas thing [Roll Eyes] ...what to buy...what not to buy...bla bla humbug...anyway [Smile] will be running some Super 8 film. Apart from the usual stuff, hope to watch the Super8 feature "Its a Wonderful Life"...my kind of film [Smile]

Seems I've opened the first gift of Christmas!

-tonight, not a creature was stirring, so I decided to enjoy a couple of reels.

Projectors: Energized
Screen: Down
Amp: Enabled

About 10 seconds into the first reel this spectacular ground loop hum filled the room (and the house!). I powered down the amp, yanked the plug from the jack and ran on the projector's internal speaker to finish that reel.

I started swapping components in and out at the projector end: no matter what I did, it kept coming back!

I went back to the stereo and found the audio cable had been yanked taut when we laid the train tracks under the Christmas Tree and it was just barely plugged in the jack on my interface: I was losing ground!

Re-routed the cable under the railroad to gain some slack, reseated the plug, and then ran the second reel with the stereo.

All is calm,
All is bright!

(BAH.....!)

My daughter and grandkids called round tonight for tea and I was asked to screen "A Walt Disney Christmas"...my daughter says its a Christmas tradition to put that one on.

Well its been a while since I last ran the GS1200 and knowing how reliable those projectors are especially one that's been sitting around I expected the worst. [Roll Eyes]

To my surprise a minor miracle happened....the GS1200 actually ran perfect [Eek!] [Smile]

We are now rounding up the Christmas reels: so many of them wait on the shelf eleven months of the year, it's just their time.

The Small One
A Walt Disney Christmas
Mister and Mistletoe (Popeye)
The Littlest Angel
Madagascar Penguins in a Christmas Caper

Plus when I was a teenager, Mom and Dad subsidized me for a couple of rolls of Ektachrome 160 this time of the year so there would be a Christmas film. I have several of these, still in great shape.

Given all the Mutual Destruction, should "Big Business" really count as a Christmas film?

-it's more in the Black Friday spirit!

Let's not forget "a Train for Christmas" even if all that's Christmas about it is the title!

I have a very brief Derann short which is snow-people sitting down in a snow-theater to see a (snow?) movie.

Is your "Snowman" something different?

There is a great Hans Fischerkoesen cartoon called "Der Schneeman" where a snowman hides out in a freezer so he can (briefly) experience summer. I'd love to have this on film.

We were is a store a few days ago and they started playing loudly Snoopy's "Christmas" VS the Red Baron...noooooo "NOT AGAIN" a wee voice in my head said... you have "GOT" to get out of here...where is the exit [Big Grin]

On a more serious note, on the school run the other day one kid we transport came up to me smiling, and handed me an envelope with my name on it. In it was a Christmas card he himself had taken the time to make. What made this special, was that last year this kid who was 12 or 13 "in foster care" at the time had assaulted another driver and as such the police took him away.

I myself have had no problems at all, in fact I have got him helping others. Although Christmas is about families getting together, sometimes things out there are not that great for some, and that in itself makes you realize how lucky we really are.
