I have been waiting for Talking Pictures TV to announce their channel number on Freesat as it was originally said that it would somewhere around Christmas 2015.

Having gone to their site (see attachment) I saw that there is no mention of Freesat, but it is available on Freeview channel 81. Having both Freesat and Freeview I checked my Freeview recorder but there was no mention of CH 81. So I retuned, still not there.

My Panasonic TV is dual so I went to Freeview. The same applied here, a retune proved fruitless.

Back to the web-site to further discover the following:-

"Although TPTV is not broadcast in HD it is broadcast from the HD Multiplex so you need HD equipment to view it."

How odd. Why use an HD transmission if there is no intention of transmitting their programmes in HD?

If there are UK members watching on Sky CH 343 can they advise if the content of films is worth me buying additional equipment just to view this one channel? I would add that I always watch live TV on Freesat as it has many HD channels and the Panasonic can receive them. (I also have a Freesat recorder which can do the same.)

I would imagine it is on the HD mux as that is the one that has bandwidth available at the lowest price, no other reason. It is a pity, though, that the electronic programme guide only shows the channels that you can receive. Otherwise you could see if it was worth getting the equipment to view. I got an HD box from Maplin a few years ago that cost less than £40, I expect there are others at a similar price.

I have Youview box - the full works and HD via BT...no sign of channel 81 and that movie channel either.

i have a new sony tv with built in freeview HD. i get it on this but an older panasonic tv recorder doesnt show it at all. i love this channel. great old B/W films, many british. watched some really great films since it went on air,

Definatley well worth watching,broadcasting 24 hrs daily,been watching since its launch several months back,lots of gems,from Old Mother Riley, The Boys,Svengali (Wolfit),etc no true film buff should be without this channel,my only hope is it doesn't move to subscription as it gets more popular.Incidentaly they are advertising their second film convention at Rickmansworth in Jan16 with guest speakers Vera Day,Brian Murphy and Derek Fowlds (from Heartbeat)

I can only get it on Sky Channel 343, I cannot find it on Freeview.

Maurice, I get Talking Pictures TV conventionaly thru my aeriel,with freeview built into my sony hd tv,i`m not one into all these electronic gismos and boxes etc ...Mike

This is really strange as I tried to watch it live through the aerial on Freeview Channel 81 on my LG television. It wasn't there, I did a retune, but still no joy. I can only get it through the dish on Sky.

Maurice, That's correct,tho I`m told I can buy a freeview box that will record the programes but not that bothered about,as they do repeat programes frequently

Can I ask those members who cannot receive on Freeview if their TVs are HD, and to those using a tuner/hard drive receiver, are these also HD capable.
If the latter are they connected to an HD television via a HDMI cable?

I am using a tuner in my dining room (which found the channel without me retuning it) and a tuner & HD recorder in the front room (which did need retuning) both are connected with an HDMI lead, but the Hard Drive unit also has a SCART lead as it occasionally says the box isn't HDMI anti copy compliant on start up but can later get the signal that way. Both are connected to HD TV's which are not Freeview HD natively.

My LG television is an HD model, I'll have another go at retuning it and I'll see if I can get it on the TV at work.

Their web page states that their availability on Freesat is now "some time in 2016".
I have sent them an email to ask if they can give more details of any possible date.
I understand if a user is clever enough they can manually tune their receiver to receive the channel now.

Just had a reply from Talking Pictures Managing Director, Sarah Cronin-Stanley.
"We are waiting for our official launch date from Freesat. I am hoping it is around 18th January, but I do not want to announce until it is confirmed."
Those with Freesat will know that re-tunes are not necessary so I will check the EPG at regular intervals.
