I am curious but how many of you on this forum also collect
35mm prints ?

There are quite a few multi guage collectors here David however for 35mm / 70mm have a look at the main Film Tech section:

There were some recent comments about my collection's storage, but the thought of multi cans just for one 35mm feature (or 70mm) is mind-boggling for a collection to be stored in the average home.

Then, for projection, there is the thought of making up. I suppose the best way is to copy cinemas of old, two projectors and constant change-overs.

Whilst I did that professionally for many years I couldn't bear the thought of doing it all again in the home. And also with the constant worry about "a knock on the door".

I collect 35mm as well as 16 and 8

Me too. 35MM, 16MM, Super 8 and 8mm.

I think that every format has his own specification and his own advantages.

Maurice i have the same concerns as an ex Cinema Projectionist.
I too worry about the weight of the films and equipment at
home. It was no problem in my last house as we had concrete
floors. This place i live in now has modern crap flooring.

Just the odd feature, here and there, but usuallym just to resell at, hopefully, a profit.

We just don't have the room for 35MM. A shame, actually, as there are timesd that you can get an original 35MM theatrical print of a feature film, for a good deal less than a super 8 print! (strange but true).

Osi yes that is very true indeed regarding the price of 35mm
features being a lot cheaper.

Also the 35mm is of much much much superior quality of course.

Much better sound too as you can rig up a Digital Sound scanner.

Its a funny old world aint it ?

I am a collector of films and projectors in Standard 8mm /Standard 8mm sound / Super 8mm / 9.5mm silent and 16mm.
I would love to also have 35mm but I wouldn't have the room for a projector and the "portable" ones are very rare.
But I'm always hopeful that one day ....

Clinton 35mm portables do appear from time to time.
Some are not much heavier than 16mm machines.

Its the overall weight of the films that is the problem for
me.

I still have Carl Zeiss TK 35 which has been converted for use
with 6000 foot spools.

my current address. I am still trying to make some space so
i can unpack. That's been over a year now .
