I found an old reel from my mom's stuff of a talk she did. I'd like to see what is on it. Hoping it is what the label says "Cardiac Talk video tape". It appears to be magnetic tape so clearly I am not on the right form, but hoping somebody here may be able to give me a good direction to finding out how to play back this 1" video tape format.

It does depend a little which 1" it was. We were equipped here to handle 1" low density tape usually on a Sony branded reel as had a fully working EV200 machine from 1964. Regretfully once digital happened I drastically reduced the analogue equipment along with stacks of VHS duplicating machines, other media businesses did the same due to low pickup. I suspect you may have type A noticing your subject which was used mainly for education which can be confirmed pretty much if your reel says Ampex on it.
Maurice's lead is very good one for you Michael but remember to say NTSC.

This took me back! After 40years in Broadcast post production I’d have handelled 1000’s of hours of 1” video tape back in the 80’s and 90’s, now it seems like a lifetime ago! I suspect the ‘A’ format assumption is correct, there were confusingly three types of 1” format ‘A’, ‘B’ & ‘C’. You’ll need to seek out a professional Legacy video tape format transfer house, and it’s likely to cost a few dollars too! Good luck with it.
