I have been very interested in the 9.5mm film format for sometime and have been lurking for some time now on this forum. I haven't taken the plunge yet as my concern is ending up with a camera that I cannot use (I am a user not a collector of cameras).
From what I have read, all the recent 9.5 film stocks have been exhausted?
Is it likely that new film stocks will arrive anytime soon?

Carl, I'm in contact with the Spanish 9.5 club. As explained in another thread, they are reintroducing black and white stock. Film is available, now they are testing process. I had a recent confirmation that things are moving on. The Spanish lab that had a machine coming from Germany is now on test phasis but this is in addition to their other current activities do it takes time. For technical reasons, the next batch of films will be available in 2018 si at that moment process should also be available. There is a French lab that could technicaly process the film but black and white process is legally forbiden in France. A solution for colour stock is still looked for but what has been found so far is too expensive to be viable. Next week, there will be a Ciné Club 9,5 de France meeting so I may learn more from the president, Monsieur Castella.
Thanks very much for that information. It seems rather strange that 9.5 film would be that difficult to obtain - particularly when it has a superior frame size to the Regular 8mm film.

9.5 film is reperfored from 35 mm stock. To be able to obtain 3 strips, the 35 mm stock has to be unperfored. À German company is able to provide that but the quantity of film ordered thid year seems not to be enough to encounter needs. The trouble is that all the 2017 has already been perfored so we have to wait the 2018 batch to get unperfored stock again.

Dominique How is the new 9.5mm stock sold? 30ft Pathe chargers. 50ft Spools. Film only (for loading the user's own charger or spool.)

Maurice, the film is provided by the manufactor on large spools. It is possible to obtain any lenght you wish once reperfored. Spools or chargers are not provide but I could send my own spools and have them loaded with film.

I think when Kodak reintroduces Ektachrome you will see a small (repeat small) resurgence in 9.5mm film available, because people want to shoot color film, not always Black & White.

That's correct, Dino but that's already possible now. It's just that it's pricey and limits your processing possibilities.
