Received my copy this morning. I haven't read it yet but just glancing through it, it's really cool to have a magazine devoted to film collecting. I've never read FFTC so I haven't really got anything to compare it to, but so far it's looking good.
I hope we can all support it, contribute and keep it active.

Hi lads, I agree with John Clancy regarding Phil Sheards mag,
the old adage "If you don't use it,you lose it!"I received mine
on Saturday and for a first issue it's most impressive, true there
aren't many ads but it is issue 1 and that will certainly change.
The reason Deranns mag became dire was that it didn't allow
other people to push product that they thought was in competition with them.As for a lack of articles I despair as it does
go against the grain when you take time to write literate and
researched stuff to be fobbed off with half baked excuses as to
why your item hasn't appeared and then listen to the whining
from the Derann camp that it's our mag and they need our
support.Well, in my humble opinion Film for the Collector
suffered a body blow when Dave Worrall left and a double
whammy when poor Derek died thus the mag quickly became
a Staff magazine.
I am of the belief that had Derek Simmonds been alive that
business would still be here in one form or another,I've known
Derek for more years than I care to remember and one thing
he was,he was a business man and a very good business man
remember when Kodak stopped pre striped film, it didn't stop
"Del boy" Simmonds,we were his bread and butter and he
knew that but it is a two way street and he depended on our
support.Well unfortunately Derek has gone but we still have
a man who has invested in this hobby of ours and I think it's
time to show some support for PHIL SHEARD who repeatedly
sticks his neck out and I don't think a few pounds a year is asking too much to subscribe to a cracking little mag.Over to you gentlemen.

Hi Hugh, it seems to me that you have been in this film collecting hobby for quite long. Funny you just join now. Where have you been?

Hopefully you will post more in this forum to share your expertise and knowledge for the benefit of other forum's members.

This come to my mind that there are still a lot of collectors not joining this forum yet.

cheers

I have just ordered the first issue through E-bay. I shall get in touch with CHC with view to a subscription. These are great news for us collectors. Phil deserves our support to his initiative.

Hi Winbert, as you rightly say I have been in film collecting a long
time(I've even had to educate Ged on some of the past Derann
releases as when I started buying from Derann, Dereks Manager
was a chap called Brian Dean and between them they ran the
hire & sales dept which was mainly std(regular) 8mm.As to
where I've been I contributed to various mags including
"Movie Maker" and Paul Van Somerens super 8 collector and
even used to loan films I'd had inported to Bill Davison for review in the "Movie Maker" although this is new country to me
as I've only just got a computer and am a"new kid on the block"
as it were, but I still look back on the days when a handful of
little 200' b/w films were enough to make you grin like a bag of
chips, remember we were a simple people then. How times have
changed.

Hugh, thanks for sharing. As most of us are not in film collecting during Derann first year (1970s) could you share in thsi forum some of the stories.

Of course do not post here, but instead open a new thread. The following topics must be of interest of this forum members:

- How film hire departments operating (price, titles, howthe monitor scratch etc)
- How they choose a title to be released
- How they made a contract with studios (1970/80 must be different with the 1990s/2000)
- What title is the most popular Derann release
- How they market their releases (1970/80 must be differnt with 1990s/2000)
- etc...etc...

Could you share us please (again in different thread, not here).

I bought this magazine on Ebay!

I paid with Paypal and I asked Phil Sheard if he would also pay with Paypal for all items sold by Classic Home Cinema! He said NO! I do not know why he does not accept this payment method.

I hesitate to give my details to my Visa card in an unsecured site

No Tom,

If payment is funded from our bank account or paypal balance, no fee at all.

If payment is funded from Credit Card there is 2.5 - 4% fee.

So basically the fee is almost the same with payment taken from direct CC (no through Paypal).

I too always don't understand people to avoid paypal just because of fee.

In fact, if fee is the concern, CHC (or was Derann) can ask payment funded by paypal balance or bank account, so no fee at all, compared to what they are doing now with CC.

Hello Winbert and thankyou for those kind words unfortunately
I know very little of how deals were made,or how films were even
selected for release I'm much like your good self just an
enthusiast who was very grateful for the releases on offer. As to
which of there releaes was the most popular I would hazard a
guess and say Flynns "Robin Hood".As you say we must have
our discussion in a different category

It would suffice that it slightly increases the transport costs to offset expenses Paypal

I received my first issue today...wonderful! Off to a great start and hopefully a long run! I hope I could contribute something to it in the future. [Smile] p.s. is the word 'incorporating' spelled differently in the U.K.?
