You're very welcome Bruce. Even though Presstapes seem to have a questionable reputation on this forum...they are still used and I'm surprised someone hasn't produced a video before this.
I prefer using cement...but it doesn't work on all film so I use Presstapes when necessary.

I've seen a video on using a cement splicer. I'll see if I can find the link. However, I'll put making a cement splicer tutorial on my to-do list

The secret of good cement splices is not to scrape too much, clean the debris from the TWO scraped surfaces and not to apply too much or too little cement. A little trick to enable the correct amount to be deposited on the small area is to find a darning needle (ask the lady of the house first) and nip off the end which will give you a little fork that when dipped in the cement will deposit just enough on the film to be joined.Too much will weaken the splice, too little will not join correctly.Always make sure the cement is fresh.

I really loved that splicer Jan,Dracula's coffin lid isn't as bad,but then he's in and out of it all day.Not so sure I agree with dabbing both sides, as this can cause warp as you know,or drying under a heat source can dry the join out too quick. How about that bit of advice that both sides should be emulsion up,he'd have a helluva job doing otherwise.Janice, you have got to make this instructional video...........squeaks are optional.

when I went from a chinon projector to an Elmo 1200HD none of the presstape splicer would pass through the gate without jumping, I had to get a Ciro two frame splicer and redo alot of my films....that splicer was easy and convienient because it did 8mm, super 8 and 16mm.
