Beadvised, you've been warned.......

I'm NOT into this sort of thing, but someone else pointed this out. I thought it was quite funny, for what it is worth.

oxymoron ....

a ... very ... stupid ... steer.

Humor like this makes me "cower".

This is humor like no udder!

I'm giving my ideas ... free range.

(groan)

Have I been milking this for too long?

although I have found this series of posts ...

dare I say it?

quite "moo-ving"?

It's actually an ancient Greek word, made of the word 'oxy' (for clever) and 'moron' (for stupid). It denotes a saying or situation which is at the same time smart and stupid. It was ironically used for people that want to make a point by saying something foolish,
and has since the meaning of contradiction. The word in itself is a contradiction,as you might understand.

Hey, what do you know? I've been a oxymoron all my life and I didn't know it! I've been accused of being a "clever moron" more than once, (usually by those that I've outwitted, of course).

Or is that an "osimoron"?

The most famous film title that is an oxymoron is of course TRUE LIES, the James Cameron film.

How about an oxymoron within one single word?

Chicken Lobster. Okay, that's two words. Is it chicken or is it lobster?

One word: Librarian.

My personal favourite is "American Cuisine", I should add that "British Cuisine" would equally be an oxymoron but it just doesn't have the same ring to it! [Smile]

New England clam chowder with Maine Lobster
Texas T-bone steak
Cajun Style Shrimp
Pizza (and I mean New York pizza...)

No contradiction at all!

Although when I was in Moscow there was a McDonalds across from the hotel...I hope they didn't give up Communism for that!

Here in Southern California the ultimate oxymoron is just a one-worder:

.

..

...

....

Freeway.

It's OK, Osi. I never really thought this post would generate so many comments. This is getting silly, but that was the point. I must admit, Mike Pekam got me with his list. The one with "Microsoft Works" really made me chuckle.
